Would be great to add an extension to the [ LIST ] bbcode

@tcBob and @jberry813 - Any chance at all of exteding the [ LIST=1 ] bbcode to allow for starting the list at a number other than 1? This would be lightly used, I'm sure but would be invaluable for "how-to" threads where you often want to interleave a list of steps with photos, etc.

I'm thinking something like HTML, where you coul dhave [ LIST=1 start="4" ] to denote a list starting at number 4, and then it'd be possible to:

    Here's how to do such-and-such:
    1. Do a thing
    2. Do the next thing
    3. Do something else

[ img ] photo of doing something else [/ img ]

    4. Continue on with this next step
    5. And so on and so forth.

Again, not sure how hard it is to tweak the parsing engine for bbcodes, but this would be super cool.

If it get's implemented, I wrote this cool post that I wrote about Route Planning, that I'd like to move over to TW; 'cause it's an area that could use some love on the forum.

You just need to go into BB Code editor and remove the [/list] tag after the first list and remove the [ list =1 ]tag at the start of the second list

I'll give it a try. I've got some more complexity than just the simple example (some notes and paragraphs that interleave, etc.) And, with the images, if they are part of a [ * ] they are no longer aligned to the left edge of the post - they are now indented and then aligned.

...but maybe with some playing around I can get it to work good enough. It's just so much easier with HTML, where you can <ol start="4"> and not have to give it a second thought.

Agreed but it's BB software at the end of the day. Just type everything out into individual lists on your post. Then hit the BB code editor to add carriage return spacing and remove the excess list tags and back to rich text editor for any final edits.

yeah, I just wasn't sure how easy it was to add custom bb - if there's a place to just "type in new rules" I thought this could be an easy one to do. I'm going to give it a shot, we'll see how easily I can get it formatted.

Well, half an hour to reformat from HTML. Lots of use of shift+enter, which feels fragile to me but I know the interwebs are built on fragility, hahahaha!

Happy to see that I can nest [ CENTER ] in a [ * ] and not have the entire bullet get centered, even when I'm using shift+enter, vs. entirely new blocks (enter)

Still not totally perfect, since nothing goes to the left margin - it's all indented at the level of the [ LIST ], but probably only those of us in web dev would notice that.
