If you search the main Prinsu thread in this subforum (titled “BS Thread”), there have been a few other mentioned cases of 3rd Gen Tacoma’s having misaligned roof rack holes. I think the fix was taking it to the dealer and having them re-tapped under warranty.

Ok so I tried to re tap the holes and use new hardware, but now the bolts seem too loose, is a 6mm tap right for the m6 bolts?

Should I go up a size now that the bolts won't hold?

Does anybody have ARB awning attached to their Prinsu?
Looking at different sizes but I’m not sure if the 8x8 (2.5) will fit on the Prinsu efficiently. Might go with 6x8 (2.0) instead

    Thanks for the he
So it turns out the tap I bought was in the wrong packaging. It was actually a 1/4-28 tap.

So I went to get some 1/4-28 hardware, but those slipped out too. Guess it's because I ran m6 bolts in the holes that are now tapped to 1/4-28?

The only thing I can think of is to tap to a bigger size maybe 7mm or 8mm and use matching bolts?

What would you recommend me to do? Will m7 or m8 hardware work? Which might be better?

I'm having some really bad luck on this project, I appreciate the help.

    Quite a lot!
Sheared a bolt this morning. It must have been very weak because it broke easily before I applied any torque to it.
I would like to replace the hardware, can someone tell me the size of the original hardware or if there are ideas out there for replacement hardware that is better? Running short on time, leave for a trip in a week.

In case anyone is looking for an alternative to lock your recovery boards to the top, I bought one of these for mine: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CSBR6UQ?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

It WILL NOT work as is with the rail channels. The head is too tall and the shank is too wide. Even though they call it 3/16”, it’s actually like .280”. I turned the bottom of the shank down on a lathe to .240” and cut the head down and now it fits perfectly. It’s a sweet little lock so I’d thought I would share it. Unfortunately you have to have access to a lathe or get creative with a grinder.

Did you ever get an answer on this?
I am thinking of running the same set up?

Factory Tow Package, Prinsu DC Rack in the mail, Leer Cap
First post, fresh meat, recent Taco purchase, and this thread has been great for research! How do you guys line up the DC Prinsu Rack with a Cap mounted Prinsu Rack and have it end up flush -- add washers or spacers? Is there going to be a height discrepancy? I feel like my Leer 100 cap is more or less the same height as my cab, but I'm just wondering = I have a Prinsu Rack coming in the mail, but was potentially looking to throw one on the cap as well. I want to carry a 14ft SoT tandem kayak, a 12.7ft SoT kayak, or both. Anyone run front and rear racks using a Kayak or two? Thanks!

The mounting taps for both Cabrac and a cap rack have A bit of sliding adjustability. I would mount the Cabrac center and adjust the cap Prinsu to match.

Has anyone thought of making an Al metal bracket for the maxtraxx instead of these 4 bolt contraptions? I'm envisioning a hinged strap which comes over the boards and is held together with a toggle latch or something. I'd have two of these, one for each end.
Thoughts? I'd love to hear the peanut gallery before I start driving in

Zach (@zscott) did in the early days of Prinsu. Not sure he’s still doing it. Send him a PM about the plans, maybe he’ll provide some info.

I had a 6ft. It hung over on both ends. I had a shell so it didn’t look too bad. Keep in mind the rack is roughly 4ft. So any extra will hang off depending on how far forward you mount it.

The overhang was as much as I’d go, but ended up working out great. I’m sure it created a little drag. I ended up using ARB brackets on top of the first and last 1x2 cross bars to give it a little more height. Canopy turned out to be extremely useful for all the rain and hail we encountered on this trip. And created a lot of shade for other trips since then.

From what I remember, they were a one size fits all. I think because they were made of aluminium, you could sort of bend, and apply tension down onto the boards with the cross bar. Perhaps do something similar, with multiple slots for different height boards and pressure. or go even simpler and just have a straight crossbar with two tie down bolts, (like a battery tray) on top.
