Yeah. From my understanding, Evarts is a town sourced setup, where as Putney trailhead is more privately owned/operated.

I think after fall crawl last year at Putney, they paved the road going up some to make the upper camp grounds more accessible to lower vehicles.

They paved it right after we were there. We went the week after fall crawl. We use the camp ground highest up the hill on the left.

Gotcha. I think that's the campground me and the Tennessee crew used a few years. It's pretty nice.

I have used the one down at the bottom, back row for electric when it's been cold lol a infrared heater, power strip, and extension chord is magical in a tent haha.

Putneys pretty awesome, the shop with tools you can use is nice as well! Plus you are not in town which is nice. I personally like the long rides to the obstacles, it feels like you are actually going somewhere.

    Harlan update:

Trail going up from the Putney side is rough. Very rough. Locked front and rear with a 4.3 tbi and 410s. Had I not had 4.70 in my t-case it wouldn't have happened in a few places. Between all the rain and the Southern Shine Crawl last weekend, it's washed everything out on that side and very rutted.

On the positive side though, all the other main trails were in really nice shape and the gold fish pond was awesome. Tadpoles everywhere and they were big! And the frogs were huge too.

Talked to the guy over on the Everts side and he said they were going to bulldoze the road again and try and fill it back in with some fresh rock. I wouldn't recommend any stock or anything without at least a rear locker try it as is.

    That can be arranged.

What's everybody thinking on what trails and stuff they want to try? I've got a map I may be able to upload or make some copies of and get out to everyone if they're interested... it's the only one I've bought that actually made it through the trip intact lol

I've planned and planned routes....then everyone goes where ever they want. I've been there enough that I pretty much know my way around as long as there isnt someone on the radio giving bad directions. (Happened a couple times last year)

Most of us have the paper map they sell. I'll have mapping on my Surface (tablet) this year
Gonna have a planned out trail ride for Friday when I roll through the gate in case anyone wants to go.. Will include a lot of red trails.

    THIS^^^^^

My favorite part about Moab was the distance we travelled.

A small park with 50 obstacles is OK....But just "OK". I want to spend some time just moving and looking at scenery. That's my favorite part of Black Mountain....It doesn't feel like a playground.

OK....anyone have any thoughts on spending one day having a poker run? Groups of 3 or 4, sent out with written directions to check points where you get cards, collect cards to play poker at the end of the day, and win prizes? I have a potential "sponsor" for that event. Won't be thousand dollar cash value prizes, but something cool....

Will require some interest to prompt "sponsor" into becoming involved.....

Just a thought. Throwing this out there to see what response there is....

No, we weren't. There was discussion of it early on, then I found out what an ordeal it would be. I TRIED to make it happen, but no one would commit to it after I showed them the thread leading up to the event..... Then 75% of the participants wanted to tell me how to set the event up usually for their own self interest, and I just dropped any attempts to get support due to lack of interest and/or cooperation. If I'm expected to do the work, it'll get done the way I can make it work. Otherwise, skip it. I had someone ready to bank role Tee-Shirts. That became a fiasco. If it wasn't for Brian Fleck, the Tee shirt thing wouldn't have happened at all..... I had a Toyota dealer willing to give us hats. Then they read the thread. That fell through the cracks... The old saying, "Never look a gift horse in the mouth" comes to mind. Had most people just went with the flow, we would have had FREE shirts and hats, maybe more.

You remember how your event was going to have tee-shirts? Then you got a dose of how bitchy and impossible to please everyone tends to get....Results? No tee shirts.

I've got a very interested business person, but like ANY successful business, they won't take on a clusterfuck to hang their name on.

If it happens this year, it will be small scale, not announced far ahead, and done in a way I can make it work. Or it won't happen at all...

What parts of the thread kept anyone with some extra cash from giving out free shirts and hats?

And for Rush, I kinda just dragged my feet on the shirt thing. This year, there will be one. Their office has plenty on the shelf, too :D

The part where everyone started bitching about how I chose to take shirt orders.

I said fuck it. Not listening to whining.
