    Taco World,

I have a '16 DCSB with OME Dakars (light duty). After installing new suspension (5100's, 888;s, LR UCAs, and the Dakars) I noticed a clunk/rub sound coming from the rear end at low speeds, particularly when hitting driveway curbs, harsher speed bumps, etc and at an angle. I crawled underneath and noticed the second leaf in the pack was making contact with the shackles.

In an effort to avoid having to grind the end of the leaf to create sufficient clearance, I installed Archive Garage Hammer Hangers. These move the mounting point slightly toward the rear and lower-- which did help, and these are awesome for reducing chatter, but the noise and contact still persists on sudden rear suspension hits at low speeds.

My local mechanic who does a lot of suspension work on Toyotas says he's seen this before with Dakars, but I haven't found any relevant threads on TW. Has anyone had this issue before, and if so any fixes yet?

Clearance Issue and Rubbing (see rust spots on shackle):

    Old Stock Hangers:

New Hammer Hangers (again, these are awesome for improving ride quality)

Another shot of the rubbing/rust spots:

    Just for fun:

Is your bottom bolt up installed backwards? Shouldn't the nut face out ?

    Thanks for the responses.

Looks like you’re right— it’s reversed from stock after the Hammer Hanger install. It was done this way on the install video I referred to as well— see any potential issues with this?

Thanks for the advice. I’m thinking I’ll bend the shackle in combination with rounding out a few inches of the square edge of the second leaf to get a little more clearance in there.
TBH I don’t really want to do either on a relatively new truck, and I’m not thrilled that nobody else has had a similar issue— but hey, it’s a small problem.

I’ll post pics with the results. Thanks again for chiming in

My recent rant on Dakars, I can't stand the way the secondary leaves stick into the shackle, it is excessive. Dont be afraid to modify to your needs, modification is often needed for aftermarket parts, I try to keep my parts out of that zone

Please call up ARB/OME and tell them about the issues so they can resolve and update their design, you'll feel better

I was wondering what the hell that noise was. Got a link to the new hangers? How much did this improve the ride? Straight bolt on or???

Must be upstate. No one around Harrisburg seems to know anything about offroad equipment/suspension.

A bunch a cool stickers, a bada ass MetalMiller Tx Longhorns grill emblem painted Hemi Orange, JBA long tube headers with o2 sims, Diff breather mod, Red LED interior lights, Fancy head unit that plays ipod n movies, Also DIY install factory stuff like, factory cruise control, factory intermittent wipers, OME nitro struts with 886x springs and toy tec top plate, JBA high caster UCA's for better alignmnet and dey beefier too, Old Man Emu Dakar leaf springs in da rear with the gear, U bolt flipper, Ivan Stewart TRD rims with 33" K Bro 2's, some bad ass weather tech floor liners so I don't muck up my interior, an ATO shackle flipper for mo travel in da rear wit the gear, also super shiny Fox 2.0 shocks back there too, all sorts of steal armor for bouncing off of the rocks like demello sliders, AP front skid, trans skid, n transfer skid, demello gas tank skid, and a tough as nails ARB bumper with warn 8k winch, I'm sure there's more
Don't bend the shackles, you will lose structural integrity. Instead, trim away where the leaf springs are contacting.

I just got an 2 inch OME lift with HD leaf packs and the installers ran into this problem. They cut the bolt to eliminate the extra threads and provide a small bit of clearance. I haven't had issues since, but haven't wheeled it hard in off-camber situations yet. (maybe I never will?)

Interested to see how it all works out.

Do you have any pics of what your installer did? I just looked at my truck and have the same issue.
