URD Fuel Pump kit

    Did anyone else have problems keeping the filter sock from popping off during install?

    Deatschwerks 255 lph pump kit - each time I tried to insert the pump into the bucket the filter sock would pop off as it rubbed on the side of the bucket. I think I finally got it in by pushing on the sock with a screwdriver while simultaneously pushing the pump in, the truck is running, but I'm wondering if I missed something.

    Did you use the teeny tiny lock ring, that attaches the sock to the bottom of the pump?

    Crap - that must be the little flower shaped washer. I didn't even see it until I just went back through the box - I thought the ring being referenced was the silver ring already installed on the sock where it snapped over the pump inlet. Looks like I need to get another strap for the pump and go back in. Thanks.

    That's the one. Glad you found it. Marking the ring with a sharpie, and then using a large flat head and a dead blow, will also loosen off the lid. As another option.

    That's how I ended up opening it the first time - my strap wrench wasn't moving anything. I was referring to the metal strap that holds the pump in the bucket. I believe I have to cut it to pull the pump back out and put the sock retainer on, so I'll need a new one. Is there another way to get to it?

    Yeah, you’ll likely need a new one. Metal zip ties. Do a Bing search, and you’ll find where to purchase some. Might even be at your local auto parts store.
