First thing is to mark it all through way around.

I use a portable band saw, but a fixed one would be better.

If you're using a grinder definitely one face at a time

 

To Me anymore I use what is closer which more often then not is the grinder with the cutting disc.

Even though the Horizontal Band saw is only a few steps away

I m not sure the last time I used the Porta Band since the rig welding days ended .

I find the trick is let the disc cut using very little pressure .

What are you using to do the lay outs if the measurements are off on two pieces quite easy to get a 1/4" gap .

The important part is holding the over all dimensions on most jobs

I'm definitely jealous of the winch plate base...looks like the rest will be easy!

 

Over the last few weeks I've been modding the camper makeing some changes. First I extended the tongue and installed a Lock n Roll hitch





I had to then create a bracket to relocate the sppare




I had to extend the frame width wise


Then created a 24"x24"x60" tongue box which houses the fridge on the rt side and has storage on the left side. It's framed with 1" angle and skinned with 16ga sheet metal.it has a vented divider in the middle, boat vents on the front and back, aluminum diamond plate on top with 2" spacers to try and help keep the box cooler for the fridge.









I had some steel left over so I whipped together a table that will store in the box and then pins onto the top of the spare tire rack and rests on top of the tire



Fun projects now I just need the time to go camping

 

Thanks man. Yea for 149 bucks you can't go wrong. They make a frame mount for it also for 129 but scrap is easy enough to get at work. Luckily Jon had that 1/4 by 4 already poached from the scrap bin.

Just went down the CNC plasma table rabbit hole! Holy shit are those things cool. So want to build one.

Even the wife commented, "what's stopping you"? I said "maybe the $7500 price tag for the gantry"

Anyone have any experience with these things?

 

My dad got one years ago from torchmate. Made his own table and bought the gantry. Probably best investment hes ever made. He makes signs, tabs, panels, parts. You can draw it he can cut it. Takes a while to get the settings right but once you do it works great.

I just deal with the Plasma machines These are like anything else you get what you pay for.

While shopping around see who has the best service not like you can easily toss this in the car and drive to your nearest warranty service if you have issues

Do you have the room or thinking of something smaller??

Once word gets around are you ready to be cutting all kinds of things for the neighbors . Most likely at a loss

Enough projects yourself to warrant spending your allowance ??

Torchmate has decent customer service. Walked us through a lot of little things and replaced parts that shouldn't have needed replaced. Been without issues for the last few years.

You only take a loss if you let yourself. We charge for just about anything we do. Labor and steel ain't cheap.

Space is kind of hard with a 4'x4' table. But built 3 jeeps and a Toyota (full solid axle swaps, etc.) In a 2 car garage. Plasma and work bench in one side and project on the other. You make do with what you have. If you plan to use the table as a side business then it may be worth it. Just for personal use? Itll save you money in the long run but itll take a while to pay for itself.

And most people forget or dont know how much time and work it takes to make a template then scan it and trace it to cut something. For simple things like shock mounts and tabs, it may be easier to buy 1 of each of the common tabs and make a template off of those to cut. But it also doesn't work if you dont have the finger press or sheet metal break to go with the table to finish these parts.
