So I definitely want to get a lift on the truck and get some wheels, etc...What should I do first? Tires and wheels?

If you lift it first you can fit bigger tires and wheels

Decide what you are doing with the lift, tires and wheels. Is it cosmetic or are you using it. If you are using it, for what. A good place to do research is forums: “Suspension” and also “Wheels and Tires”.

Welcome to tw. Look up a local chapter. Talk with them, go wheeling with them. See the different lifts n tire combos in action. And don't worry a stock taco is capable of doing more than you think. Seen alot of peeps just put a lift on n hate it. RESEARCH before buying. One I like you might not like.

Definitely useful info folks thanks! Looks like I will continue to do research. On a side note, how important are shocks prior to a lift?

I would get shocks with the lift. You will need longer shocks for the lift.

As far as suspension goes, you’re about to go head first down a very long rabbit hole. As others have said, research and ask lots of questions.
