Little this. Little that 4x4 Swap’d PreRunner
True. I guess they’re softer than normal, but I would hesitate to classify them as an alternative to bags.

They’re designed to be bump stops, with the occasional tension and bumping. Where as bags are designed for constant weight and compression.

What’s the verdict? Overhang or no overhang? Anyone regret getting either?

No regrets when I had one on my previous truck!
Now tent fits nicely on my current (temporary, until 2019 TRD Pro Tundra is delivered) truck.

Made the drive to Bend to pick up my RTT today. I can’t say enough good things about the folks at @Cascadia Tents

I don't mind my overhang. It's a little more helpful for rain cover

Use that as an excuse to get a dropper!

You are right about the rain. I have no over hang and water dumps on your back every time you climb the stairs. We often camp in the rain. Mistakes were made.

Absolutely love mine with the overhang. Encloses it all off with the annex on, and it adds some privacy to getting in and out of the tent. Visibility is lost, but if you stake down the guy lines, it holds it pretty still and it doesn't get in the way. All in all, I love it. Maybe I just don't know any different?

I got the ssr-612-47, which are rated at 1000lbs. They are the newer part number for 3rd gens that are shorter, so they don't contact the frame when the truck is unloaded. They don't even contact with just my empty shell on there.
The other model is the 612-40 that is rated for 500lbs.

Found a Smittybilt Overlander XL used, 20 minutes from my house. I was putting the Yakima Bedrock setup on the Taco and the bedrock clamp snapped. First time trying to mount the bedrock clamps, so now were working on a warranty. Picked this up for a buddy, as I ordered one for myself two days ago.
