Hey all, just a quick question to you guys with 5 speed trucks.

Where about does your clutch disengage?

My truck is a 2014 with OEM clutch (about 40,000 mi) and I don't recall ever having a problem with it but lately it seems to be engaging/disengaging very near the top of the pedal stroke. It's most noticeable when starting out from a stop. I'm having to release the clutch over halfway to the top before it starts grabbing, leading to some jerky starts. It didn't used to be like that.

When on the move, shifting between gears I only have to press the pedal down about 1 or 2 inches past the "free play" area at the top of travel to shift smoothly. I still have some free play in the pedal at the top, maybe 1 or 1-1/2" or so.

I know there's been clutch issues with some trucks but is this a normal behavior? What could change to make a clutch disengage too early?

Is there any adjustment of push rod length on the master cylinder? It almost seems as I could shorten the push rod a bit...

    Thanks!

There is an adjustment, I adjusted mine and makes a lot of difference.

Thanks man! I thought there should be an adjustment. To make the engagement point closer to the floor I'd have to shorten the push rod, right?

I loosened the nut, pushed the pedal until no free play then backed off just a hair- tightened nut there. I thought about adding a second nut to lock it in place, maybe mine was missing one

I just made the adjustment. I shortened the rod a bit, maybe 1/4". Got more free play than I used to but the engagement point is right around the middle of travel, not so close to the top anymore.

I've got this same issue except when I am adjusting the push rod to almost eliminate all of the free play, it is still releasing with the pedal almost all the way out. Is it possible that I need to bleed the clutch after doing this? and if so, its just like bleeding brakes right? pump, pump, hold, loosen the bleeder valve on the trans let the fluid/air out until its all fluid coming out right?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. the locking nut on mine came loose while on a 3000 mile road trip and now the pedal really needs to be adjusted

    Manual says:

Fill the brake reservoir tank with brake fluid and bleed the clutch system.
    Torque: 11 N*m (110 kgf*cm, 8.0 ft.*lbf)

I pretty much did what you're saying, press pedal and release fluid

probably a stupid question, but just want to make sure i dont screw up as this is my daily driver right now..

The bleeder im going to loosen is the one on the left side of the tranny right?

Im guessing the other bleeder valve on the release cylinder is for when youre bench bleeding while its out of the truck?

View the “Release Cylinder Torques” pdf I attached- It identifies the bleeder

Ahhhh sorry about that. For some reason i thought one of those diagrams was for the assembly near the clutch pedal. Its much more clear now that i realized theyre the same thing, just from different angles. Thats the bleeder i was looking at yesterday up under the truck. Seems pretty easy now. Thanks again for clearing that up:fistbump:
