That looks like the Sony XAV AX-100. Question for you - did you wire up your camera to the backup lights for power?

The reason I ask is that I have gone through two of those head units so far, and they both have the same issue. If the camera is wired to the backup lights, the head unit will say, "No video signal", and give you a black screen. You have to hit the home button to cancel it. It will then do it everytime you back up, or start your truck. Really, really, annoying. The guys at Crutchfield were able to verify the problem, but can't figure out how to solve it. Just wondering if you had experienced it as well. Otherwise, it's a really solid, affordable CarPlay / Android Auto solution.

The camera draws power from the backup lights, and the +12v signal from the lights also feeds down the video cable to the head-unit's reverse trigger wire. The head-unit automatically switches to the back-up camera the second I go into reverse. It also returns to whatever input/mode I was in before when I switch out of reverse.

I don't recall doing anything special other than enabling the camera in the settings ... it just works as expected.

My guesses would be that the camera is sending a video signal in a format the headunit doesn't support, or the camera isn't actually getting power.

Thanks - I appreciate the info on how you hooked yours up. Mine is the identical set-up. Reverse lead 12V to the truck's backup light, and camera powered by the reverse lights as well. The video feed is fine, as it switches to and displays the backup camera just fine when I put the truck in reverse. It's when the truck is taken out of reverse that it defaults to the black screen. Interesting to hear that yours isn't doing that.

Did you tie your camera to chassis-ground or the back-up light's ground? I tapped both wires leading the the reverse lamp ... one was RED with a white stripe (+12v), and the other was WHITE with a black stripe (Gnd).

Oooh - interesting thought. I think I hooked my camera to a chassis ground in the trailer hitch that was right next to it. Was trying to be efficient and wire up a bunch of stuff at once.

Can I assume that the white with black stripe ground wire to which you're referring is in the tail light harness at the back of the truck? I'm wondering how that would affect things? I've been on the phone with multiple techs from crutchfield, and none of them have come up with that idea.

Removed stock wheels and swapped the Wildpeaks over to a set of 16x8 0mm offset ATX AX202 wheels. Tires are pretty much flesh with the sidewalls poking out just slightly, but it looks soooo much better than stock TRD OR wheels.
