Just bought a 97 Tacoma automatic 2 owner truck. Has 126,000 miles on it. My question is are there any known issues with this model truck? I have always wanted a Toyota and when the chance came avalible I had to take it. Anything anyone can help me with is greatly appreciated.

Where has the truck lived its life?

    Low miles for the year!

    Pics?

I bought the truck from a gentleman in Orlando whose mom bought it from the original owner in Clearwater. The truck sat alot. It sat for 5 years once in Orlando it was drove around the block a couple times a week. The guy I got it from had to sell it because of the HOA giving them a fine every month for it sitting on the street. He changed the computer at 101,000 but everything else has been done by Toyota. He even gave me the new oem shocks he bought for it just never had time to put them on.
I checked out the frame and everything looked good no rust. Is there anything I can do to make sure of this or is this just a factory issue?

Your frame is 99.99 % likley to be great.

No beach driving in Clearwater, so no direct salt exposure. No salt in Mouse land, so you should be fine.

While the frames are lousy for corrosion resistance, its the ones living in salt / snow country that suffer.

You have a 5 lug 2wd acess cab. Perfect truck for jon boats, kayaks, bicycles, sail boards, fishing, etc.

    Enjoy!

Gotcha good to know I did a little home work before I bought it. My brother loves his and all he does is rave about it and I have always heard great things about them. I have wanted one and this was one I had to jump on quick. I might put a larger wheel and tire in the future and an actual spray in bedliner not a fan of the plastic drop in one I just think they hold water and debree under it and that worries me some.

Be deliberate in your wheel tire selecton so you can avoid clearance issues. Bigger isnt always better, especially if it causes other problems.

O yeah I definitely not going to go crazy there are 14's on there now I am thinking of a 15" wheel with a decent tire side wall I don't plan to take this truck off road ever just used to haul some wood every now and then. Just want a nice wheel. I know the check engine light is on and the guy gave me the paperwork he got from Toyota says it's the o2 sensor on the down tube so I might tackle that this weekend. But I might take it up to orielys and have them check it out for me. Any suggestions
