Their thread sizes are different. Because of this, the thing blew off.

OP the motor will be fine, you cover 50 feet in a truck quicker than you think and it’s not long enough to do damage. What made you get it “professionally” cleaned vs getting a hot pressure washer and some simple green, just curious

O'Reilley District Mgr. trying to sweep possible damage under a rug.....

You might want to visit the wix filter web site. Here you can compare their filters to other makes. The Wix versions of the 2 Bosch filter numbers you listed above show different thread sizes. That simply means the thread sizes for the 2 Bosch filters should also not be the same. If they really are, then at least one of the Bosch filters was mfg'd incorrectly and I'm betting that is not the case.

    Lessons learned here:

    - Always look up part numbers from mfg. web site before purchasing
    - NEVER believe a parts counter person at one of these mass marketer places. They haven't got a clue. Gone are the days of skilled independent parts house counter men
    - As an aside - always check the part number on the part itself to ensure it matches the number on the box. I've had more than one issue at O'Reilley with the part # in the box not matching the box...air filters - brake calipers - brake pads...they have a quality control problem.

    Bosch 3300 is a WIX 51365. Thread size on it is 20mm x 1.5

Bosch 3330 is a WIX 51348 (also Toyota 90915-YZZD3 and most others). This would have a 3/4-16 thread.

So it is close, it would be a loose fit but suspect it would thread on and may feel OK. A 3/4" thread is approximately 19mm in diameter.

Good on O'Reilly for owning up to this. May not be the most glamorous parts store but seems to be the most authentic, cheap, and best selection. (And have a catchy song). Sounds like an easy mix-up from the clerk (Not to say that's okay).

It apparently was enough of a difference for oil to go spewing all over the place. The burst pressures are similar. The store seems to have done OK with cleanup costs, but I call BS on the district mgr. telling the guy thread sizes were the same. He's trying to cover O'Reilley in the event of engine failure later. Some people here say nothing was damaged, but who really knows?

One thing to watch out for in the future due to the heavy cleaning is that some of the pulley bearings, especially in the alternator, might crap out.
Toyota dealer on the very first oil change (way back in 1997) forgot to put on the oil cap on Corolla. My wife didn't notice for a couple of days and oil went everywhere. Few months later had to get new alternator--the dealer refused to accept responsibility for problem... The next five Toyotas I bought were from another dealer.
