A little rust on uncoated metal is normal, but you don’t have to leave it! I didn’t like mine either so here’s what I did; wire brush or sandpaper where I could, then apply rust converter over any rusty areas. Then I hand painted oil based rustoleum paint over those areas, and anywhere that I didn’t like the coverage of. Let it dry at least 24 hours. Then apply fluid film.

Por 15 it before it even starts then fluid film

I’d definitely at least take it into the dealer so they can take note. Doesn’t hurt for them to document it in case anything happens. Documentation makes everything slide smooth like butter.

Fluid film the piss out of just about everything under your truck at least once a year. And even then expect rust if you live near the salt belt.

I hear ya on the recall. I’d pack my frame with several bags of rock salt if it was close to being condemned, just to get that fucker warranted. However I’m not so sure yet I’m going to keep it that long. Was thinking of keeping it for a while but I really dislike daily driving it, so I’ll probably get rid of it in a year or two

Everytime I get in my DCLB for my 30min commute I have a huge smile on my face. I think it’s a great DD and 21.5 mpg ain’t too bad! I live in the salt belt and am afraid to look under my truck though!

Don’t for as long as you can, otherwise you’ll probably be disappointed lol. I undercoated the crap out of mine when I first got it and never seen my other trucks look as poor underneath in as short as a time. Not even my first gen taco looked that bad and we all know the problems those had

I wish they would release a Tacoma with rust-colored paint. Then I could tell people my brake drums, frame, and undercarriage are “color matched”.
