What do you have for tires? I'm really considering the Cooper ST Maxx in this size.

255/85R16 are really great. I was thinking about the idea of having to regear with the larger tires and I'm glad I didn't. Truck drives fine without the regear although I do get a little rubbing if I have it cranked to the left and stuff it. Need to trim that little piece of plastic.

Are you rubbing on the mud flaps or something else? Was thinking about 255/85/16 on my stock 2017 OR. I’ll take it hunting fully loaded in CO mountains, and was hoping to put off a lift since I just bought it this year and have already purchased a snug topper, bajarack, and 3 skid plates. I think my pregnant wife might shoot me if I sneak in a lift...but as the kids say, YOLO.

I have a 2" lift, but I could probably give the front coil overs a couple more cranks. If you have mud flaps, you will definitely rub them. The rubbing I get is on a little nub of plastic located at the back of the wheel well. If you take your front mud flaps off, you cant miss the little piece of plastic jutting forward.

Speed is based on wheel speed not rear end ratio. When I went to 33” tires my speedo is off 4-5mph. After my gears it did not change, it stated the constant 4-5 off.

Anywho i also have the OV tune and 4.88’s and between the two I would personally say gears before tune, but you definitely need to get both. It makes the truck drive like a normal vehicle again. I am totally satisfied with the money I’ve spent on both and I definitely have no interest in getting rid of my truck now.

My gears also ran me 1490 installed. I found someone local to me to do it crazy cheap so I got lucky there.

The 2018 Tacoma Spec sheets show the SR5 tires as P245/75R 16. The TRD Off road tires as P265/70R 16. Both trucks with 3.5 L engines and 6 speed autos have a 3.9 dif ratios. Using Beerpayzdabillz tire size calculator will change the speedo reading .29 MPH at 65 MPH. Basicly no change in speedo reading but the P265/ 70R 16 will greatly increase the tires bad ass look factor. When it is tire change time they will be my choice.

    Workin' on it....
I'm only running 265 75 r16 and I may go up to 33's but I'm seriously considering a re-gear in the next year or so not due to tire size but all of the extra weight the truck is now carrying between plate bumpers, sliders, bed rack, 1/4" steel skid trilogy......it all adds up.
