Here is a couple more. The truck has been in the body shop like 5 times for other stuff. They can't seems to reapply the factory clear bra on the front and I am at wits end. The truck sits a lot at work and I dont drive it much. I saw 2 tiny solvent pops in the door and the guy said he wanted to wait till summer to fix them cause I guess the door needs to be repainted. I'm not sure if I should let them or live with it.

So. Brought it to the body shop. They didnt paint the whole door. More blended from the fender into the door and put clear over that. The guy said the more clear you put on the door, the more darker it gets. He said that they will wet sand and buff to get the door to lighten up a bit. He then said if it doesn't work, plan B would be to work it into the rear door a little and hopefully that will work. Unfortunately he has to get approval from state farm if he does option B

    NO NO NO NO NO!

Watch. They'll buff so much clear coat off it will start to fail and peel.

Make sure you ensure that each time they touch it, there is a warranty on the work (lifetime). Also might want to get yourself a device that measures paint depth to check their work when they are done with that.

I would not give them a pass to mess up your rear door now as well.

Unfortunately I am transferring off the island next year. If something happens, I am shit out of luck anyways. I'll see how they do. He said something about having to be careful on how much they buff it. I'm not a body guy so this is out of my realm. I know some stuff from reading and watching YouTube lol. Thanks for the warning. I'll see what happens. Right now it really bothers me that it's off.

It would bother me too. I’d just be nervous about them wanting to continue to spread the problem to more panels lol.

Hopefully they get it fixed up.

So I talked to the body shop. They tried to buff it or whatever to match the front door and the guy said it got better but in certain light, you can see it still. He said that they have to blend a little clear into the rear door to get it to match better. He said it will look right when done. I really didnt want to get into the rear door but I guess I am shit out of luck. I'd rather look for a wrecked taco with a good passenger door then get this deep into it. Its line of those things I could let go but I will always notice it and I am a stickler on that shit. Anyone know where to find body parts besides ebay from wrecked newer vehicles? I'm at a loss now and aggravated. Here is a pic when it's in the sun light, after installing the grabbers. It's not bad in the light but when it's kinda crap out, you can notice it more.

Rear springs sag, front fender doesn't have a perfect color match, front and rear fender flares are different shades, and the upper edges of your door tape don't line up.
Plus the rear wheels stick out different amounts on either side of the bed.

I would but I live on Kodiak Island in Alaska. Only one shop lol.

Whatever all this means. The front door does not match, as explained long ago. I just wrote a update on what the shop wants to do. Just asking for input.

I know, I was just roasting, lol.
Honestly the only thing on it that would bug me would be the tape line, but I don't like that design cue anyway.

The problem you've got here is that even if the body shop gets it perfect you're still going to see it because you know it's there. Everybody else is just going to see a nice-looking Tacoma. I can get having them fix the problem, though, since it should have been done correctly the first time.

That's true. When you know it was there at some point, it will ALWAYS be there. The shop can only do so much eye tricks to help you from not noticing it. I talked again with the shop due to me being a nervous wreck about shit like this. He explained that they will sand the front door, little of the back to blend, lightly paint and reclear it. The insurance company thinks its fine of course. The shop said they will do it on their dime. I guess I will cross my fingers and hope they can trick my eyes some more.

I know a guy that spent over a year restoring an early Bronco himself. He welded new sheet metal, ground & hammered the welds, then skim-coated bondo and spent hours and hours and hours sanding, painting, and wet sanding prior to the final application of paint and clearcoat. It's got a paint job that's miles deep when you look at it and hasn't got a single blemish that I can find, but he's convinced that you can see a weld line on the door. I can't. My GF can't. His wife can't. But he can, because he knows it's there.

I feel like bugs are always crawling on my skin and no matter how hard I scratch, they seem to never go away! hahaha j/k. Seriously though, I guess shit happens, I will see what the shop does. If it looks like shit, I will take the doors off and be like a Tacoma/Jeep guy...

Not a great plan during the winter months, in that neck of the woods

Well... back from the body shop. Idk what to think about it. I think it still looks off. I've been there more times then anyone should have. Think that's it. Maybe time to trade the girl in for a 19. I know I am critical lol.

Honestly OP I couldn't figure it out at all and I was staring hard. Then when people pointed it out, I stared at it some more and I GUESS, I can see what you guys are talking about. But if I didn't know, I would have never noticed it. No one will notice that man, ever. Once a car is in an accident and is repainted the painted panels will NEVER match the original paint EXACTLY, you can have the same batch of paint and everything but it still won't.

I leased to buy it out but maybe when the lease term is up, I will trade to a 19. We will see.
