Any other members have NVGs? Had plenty of exposure to them in the Army, but decided to buy some for myself.

Ordered from TNVC: AN/PVS 14 White Phospor gen III. Also a DBAL A3 is on order. I plan on putting this on my SBR 300 blk for hunting on the property (coyotes, beavers, etc - nuisance animals only, as allowed by my state).

I plan on gettin another suppressor for use with this setup.

    What are you running?

Bump helmet with a Streamlight Sidewinder, MS-2000 strobe, and Peltor ear pro. I've since upgraded the Rhino to a Wilcox L4 G24 mount.

I use my M&P15MOE with a DBAL-A3 as my NV rifle. I have a Streamlight Supertac IR in a Vltor mount that goes on it if I'm needing the extra IR illum.

For pistol I use a G22 converted to 9mm and ALG 6 Second Mount for a red dot and Surefire x300v. I like the NV compatible red dot pistol set up better than using an IR laser.

Cans for both, 762-SDN-6 and Octane.

Do you also have a Mil-Spec IR LASER Pointer? How do you intend to aim?

Mil-spec IR lasers are limited to the military. The strength of a military PEQ-15 is higher a than civilian ATPIAL, although they are both made by L3 and look the same.

So no, I don't personally own a Mil-spec IR pointer or illuminator.

With a NV compatible red dot, you can see what you're aiming at thru a head mounted NOD.

Did not read that far into it, then why do they say it's Mil-Spec? LOL. Liars!

Everything I was taught about NODs came from a neighbor who was in the Army (actually SOF) in the GWOT. FWIW he said that the civilian power actually is likely fine for everything we might use it for. The military ones are (according to him) somewhat overpowered and what additional power they actually do need over the civilian version is for stuff like marking for airstrikes.

I wouldn't say that mil IR is overpowered, it just has a different purpose. AN/PVS-7Bs with older tubes might need that extra power, while my personal -14 or the OP's TNVC -14 doesn't need it.

In my opinion, the best IR pointer/illuminator available commercially right now is the MAWL. After this deployment is over, I plan on gifting myself a MAWL.

In fairness to my buddy, I should clarify that he probably said something like "these days if anything they are slightly overpowered for the purposes we would put them to [in civilian life]."

He said that the big power was most useful typically for directing heavy metal from above.

+1 on the MAWL. Among other things, it is rugged (e.g. it is the only civilian model I know that has survived long term on the FN SCAR*).

(*My understanding is that the SOF, Navy SEALs etc. use a specially hardened ATPIAL for the SCAR)

@bedouin2w nice setup! Once I get back from my current deployment I’ll take some pictures of my stuff all setup! The can will take some waiting time of course. Headed to Innovative Arms as soon as I get back to see which route I’m going.

As stated above, IR laser devices, but I also have 5 optics that are NVG compatable.

Have you had a chance to shoot with the DBAL yet?

A guy who just rotated out had -31s with WP tubes. It's a different world.

Don't know if I should get a MAWL next or just save up for a WP BNVD.

Not yet. I put a LaRue base in the DBAL but haven’t zeroed it yet. Need to find time to do so.

Crye has their Nightcaps on sale for $66 on the Crye Precision website. They're usually $95 at TNVC.

The consensus is that if you're only using a monocular like a -14 then you don't need a counterweight, but you'll need to get a 3 or 4 hole shroud. It is not compatible with the standard 1 hole Norotos or Wilcox brackets or with the 1 hole Norotos shroud.
