When I did mine, I ended up throwing in the towel and taking mine to a place near me that does driveshafts and differentials. First thing he said when he saw the inside clip u-joint: "Yep, those things are a bitch!"

Mine's the KARR system that they use these days, not sure how effective it is but I see it on a lot of Toyotas and Hondas nowadays.

Only one I've ever heard people not complain about is Clifford car alarms and immobilizers.

It was terrible. It was quite a common dealer installed option back in the day, I always see Locktronic equipped Camry’s and 4Runners’s at the yard.

There’s actually a sticker permanently bonded to my window that says “LOCKTRONICS IS INSTALLED FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE DEALER AND IS NOT INCLUDED IN FINAL PRICE”

I bought a used shell off a 1988 4x4 someone was selling. Fits really well.

Lots of dealers install those things around here to disable cars that have been stolen or are going to be repossessed and they only disable them if you buy it outright or finally pay off your loan.

That reminds me, I bought this really nice Viper remote start system and power window automation system like a year ago and never got to installing it. My cheap $10 Amazon unit I’ve been using finally had the key crap out on me so it’s high time I install it.

I don't like those things, they have a high probability of stranding you or just straight up malfunctioning and breaking parts.

When I was ripping the Spaghetti of a keyless entry system out of the 5-lug, there was a small jumper harness that went in between the ignition and the dash harness. I was planning on using that to splice all my remote start wires to. If it leaves me stranded, I can just unplug it under the dash and bypass it entirely.

Hopefully I don't have to find out how good or bad mine is lol, but I don't mind the peace of mind (just have to repress the memory of how I got raped on the cost of it when I was buying my truck, rookie mistake).

It's weird how sensitive it is on some areas but not others; I can jump up and down in my bed with it armed and it won't do anything, but if an acorn drops from a tree and hits the hood it will set it off, lol. Supposed to disengage the starter if it's not deactivated before starting the truck, I always make sure when I'm wheeling that I leave the activator at home and just take my regular key. Would really suck to be out in the middle of nowhere with it armed and realize I lost or broke the button for it.

I have the stock RS3000 system that came with my Land Cruiser and the glass break sensor (which senses taps and warns you first) was way too sensitive. Has a little dial for turning it down, and even still it gets me sometimes when my phone or something touches the truck when I'm fumbling for keys.

I have some no-name keyless entry system I bought for testing purposes when I was creating my power door retrofit system, keep in mind I use to have manual locks, windows, and mirrors. I was only going to use it temporarily while I got a replacement unit, as you can see that never happened and I’ve been using it for about two years now.

I’m replacing it with a Viper 5706V 2-way remote start, keyless entry, and security system. I opted for the optional glassbreak detector, and power window automation system. The power window system allows me to open or close the windows from the remote. The remote is two-way so I can monitor the engine, and lock status as well as control it up to a mile away.

I like the remote start system because I can start up the truck with the AC going in the summer, or the heater going in the winter so it’s ready to go when I want to drive it and I don’t have to wait.

Hell I can hook up one of the aux buttons to my heated 4Runner mirrors too.
