I have the Ryobi 18V impact wrench and I love it. It's $129 with battery and charger. Personally I'd pay a little extra for the cordless. You can store it in your truck and you'll be happy to have it if you ever get a flat.

I'd never buy that cheapo impact gun from HF. With very few exceptions if I can't afford tools at least halfway decent I wait until I can.

For lug nuts I break them loose with a breaker bar then use one of the smaller 1/4" hex drive impact drivers with 1/2" drive attachment adapter to do the rest of the work. It's really nice popping that tire on then in 30 seconds spinning all 6 lug nuts on with the lightweight impact. Then once the car is down it's no big deal hitting each nut with a breaker bar, the small impact gets the nuts almost fully tight anyway. I wouldn't want to hammer my lug nuts with a stronger impact, I like feeling by hand how tight they are.

The impact like the one in this kit (I have this kit and also the same thing by Makita and I love them both) will be higher quality than the HF stuff, is still pretty cheap for what you get, work fine in conjunction with a breaker bar to make lug nuts significantly easier, and have many many other uses around the house. Also the batteries are great and last awhile, battery technology has come a long way since the days of the old shitty NiCad cordless drills and if you've never used a newer generation cordless you'll be impressed.

I have the HF corded impact. It's huge and a bit heavy so tight spots a no go. It bust out Honda notorious crank shaft bolt off with ease. Owned it for 2 years now. Of course all the rave now is cordless and they are handy.

To answer your question yes. Would work great for what you need it for. Im getting one myself real soon for the same uses you are. No need for me to spend anymore on something that will do the same thing just so i can say i own a fancy name brand.

If crank bolts are the problem just get a set of these

It's HF... so there's a 35% chance it will explode engulfing you in flame.

    Yes,

I have owned one like that for over 7 years. It works well.

Just get a decent impact socket set before doing any serious work. Don't use this for final tightening of lug nuts, use a torque wrench.

Torque multiplier sockets specifically made to remove crank bolts

And they work like a charm. Impact gun doesn’t struggle as compared to using a normal impact socket

    I went with the the:
DEWALT Bare-Tool DC820B 1/2-Inch 18-Volt Cordless Impact Wrench (Tool Only, No Battery)

$89, over 1750 ft/lbs. Good choice for me as I already had the batteries.

I would buy a name brand battery powered impact. You will be surprised how much you end up using it. One of my favorite/best tool purchases.

Didn’t have deep enough pockets for the snap on, but got the heavy duty Dewalt and love it.

I got the impact for free when I bought my old toolbox. Who knew I would have the impact longer than the box
