18 total articles from 2016 until now.
Four are about my service in Iraq. If you go to SOF mag.com put my name in search box. I have no schooling on writing just started one day lol. Been reading SOF since 1978.
I try to focus on the product most action pics are staged for safety FYI.

What are your thoughts on pros/cons of a battle belt vs inner/outer belts such as the Safariland ELS? I have an ELS belt set up with about 7 or 8 ELS clips going from 12 o’clock around to 6 o’clock on the left side (right hander) that I use for 3-gun and 2-gun matches. I change out the configuration of the ELS equipped pouches as needed for the stage (pistol, AR, or shotgun caddies). I have a QLS at 3 o’clock for my pistol holster. Last year I added the Carbon Arms rachet system and got rid of the studs on the ELS belt. Found the ratchet to be easier to get on/off and tension the belt system.

I know Safariland makes great kit.

The only con I could see is maybe long term Durability? Battle belt one might be crawling in dirt getting it wet etc. How is retention with your competition set-up? Most folks that I know that do competition are worried about speed and time. Myself I don't want a mag falling out of a pouch while moving or bouncing around in a vehicle. I do not like you have to use tools with the ELS.
The AWS you can improvise to move the panels if you have lost the kydex tool(ruler etc).

My train of thought is if it works for you use it. I would have no issue using the belt I reviewed for competition or duty.
I still prefer chest rigs for serious work but the belt now has a place with my loadouts for my sidearm and other misc kit. I find as I age, I try to distribute weight more evenly on my body. Downrange I had eveything attached to my plate carrier so I could get kitted up quickly for combat etc.
Now speed isn't quite as important when teaching or taking a class.

    Happy shooting.

Thanks for the reply. Retention is decent, just depends on how much I crank down the kydex pouches. I was just curious if there was something there with the battle belts as opposed to a comp rig. I will say that getting in and out of vehicles with the belt on is a PITA, especially from behind the steering wheel.
