Hmmm, Stereo and/or Driving light upgrade?

2007 Tacoma owner for 10 years now, not much to complain about at 100K.
Outside of normal maintenance, some other stuff I have had to deal with:

• Amber driving lights partially melting the internal lens
• Replaced the U-joints
• Repaired the dome light temperature PCB

The oldest kid now wants to take the truck when she goes back to college for her sophmore year, am thinking about upgrading the Stereo HU to give her a Bluetooth compatible unit.

The factory unit is the JBL version, is it actually worth keeping and just add a Bluetooth adapter?

Also has anyone done the turning signal retrofit to LED, or should I just instruct the kid to always drive with the headlights on (to keep the driving lights off)?

IMO LED are a pain if it was not designed for it

I went the cheap route for adding bluetooth - a

$20 Nulaxy KM18 Black Matte

Nulaxy KM18 Plus power port FM transmitter. Bluetooth capable and has a micro SD port for playing music. The Plus model adds the on/off button, which I need after converting the power ports to full power 24/7. $18 on Amazon. Got them for daughter's cars as well. I like that I can move it car-to-car - have done so on car rentals.
RE melting lens issue, I recently replaced my headlamp assemblies with aftermarket lens; hopefully, it has a better design. I really can't tell from looking at it; time will tell ...

 

That is a great option, will invest the $18 to test it out.

It is really sucks that Toyota never admitted the design flaw with the overheating lenses.

I think they had a TSB at one time - I remember reading some TW members were able to get free replacements. The melting part was not a big deal to me. I replaced mine because my truck is parked outside and the plastic lens had started cracking from the UV bombardment. I'll be happy if I get 5 years on the replacements.
