Usually when things are “rated” it’s for the maximum capacity. In this case you’ll just be underutilizing what you paid for. You’ll know if the system is too overrated when you try to do the initial setup and you’ll see how many links you need to load up the bars. If you don’t mind sharing what make and model did you get? Also the weights you mentioned are dry I’m assuming?

There are calculators online to help you.

Are you towing on the bumper or clasp 3 hitch on your frame?

If you are bumper towing. Warning..

If you have a class 3 hitch you will be fine. Just distribute your weight properly on the trailer. It should almost balance it self so you can lift it from the trailer tongue.

That is too heavy a WDH.

When I was researching WDH for my truck I contacted the manufacturer of the Husky centreline hitch I was looking at. To be effective in BOTH weight distribution and sway they need to be loaded properly. Essentially you need a hitch that puts the actual weights in the middle of the range as best you can.

That hitch will be outside of it’s range even if you are at the maximum of what your truck is capable of towing.
