One oddball question......sorry.....had to ask........once these are installed.....will the factory hood prop still be usable ?

    Two reasons for asking:
    • I'm sure the service techs at the Toyota dealership will still try to use the factory hood prop
    • Also, I'll be installing a set of ditch lights and wanted to use the Redlines and figured I'd use the factory prop, too....when I'm loosening the hood bolts (one at a time) to install the ditch light brackets.

If I remember correctly, yes. We designed the system to raise the hood to the same height as the factory prop rod. Other forum members may chime in if I am incorrect.

This is not the case for me. I have a 2013 sport hood. The hood opens about 2" less with the quicklift struts.

My base cab 2013 works well with the hood support rod and will raise about 1-2" higher. The placement of the lower support is where my installation differs from yours in the picture. I finally gave up on trying to figure out where the instructions wanted me to measure for the lower support, and just extended the Redline while connected at the top and while the hood support was engaged. The lower support attached to the strut came to the span crush joint in front of where your lower support looks to be connected. The lower support fit nicely into the dimple of the crush point making for a more flush fit. The Redline struts are a good addition to my 2013, but the installation instructions and pictures leave a lot to be desired. Black supports on a black car, do not show up well at all. If I ever installed another set, I would just install the top support to span the hood crush point and the lower support to span the first crush point from the cab. No measuring required. I also drilled holes to attach the lower support from the side using SS rivets. Much easier than trying to get the self-taping screws to work using the top drilled holes. I suspect the strut mounts are a generic product not made specifically for the Redline/Tacoma installation.

Hum well I followed the directions, at least the measure, and placement. Guess I could adjust for a higher lift. I'll just keep it where its at and see if it bothers me.

I installed my Redlines today and for me the instructions were easy to follow. They work great! The hood doesn't open quit as much as the stock support rod. It is very close though. I had some 3M two sided tape which was very thin. I put it on the brackets and stuck the brackets to the truck first. Then I did my drilling and rivets. Darn rivets are hard as hell. I'm guessing they're stainless steel.
