Wanting to do a drain and fill soon on the transmission and wanted to see if there is a write up somewhere? I have searched the forum and find many on the 6 cyl, but not the automatic 4 cyl.

I've done it a few times on my old Nissans and figured it would be basically the same?

    Thx

I don't think a proper write-up has been done, but on the 2nd Gen 4-cylinder this is super easy. So the sticky is not really needed IMO. You'll need 4 quarts of T-IV ATF, a torque wrench, a new crush washer, and a small funnel. Give it 15 minutes to drain, apply the new crush washer, and torque the bolt properly (my research shows 30 lb-ft but confirm this for yourself). Then add 3 quarts through the dipstick tube using the small funnel. Take it for a short drive through all the gears and check the fluid level (on level surface, idling in park). Add small amounts of fluid as needed. DO NOT OVERFILL.

A common practice is to pour the drained fluid into a known quantity container so you can see how much came out, then pour that much back in.
I prefer to take each drain/fill individually, add just under the "correct" amount, confirm the current level, and add a more as needed.

You will eventually want to replace the transmission filter... around 100-150k miles.

DG ..Thanks for the reply...I basically do the same on the Nissan. I have a plastic container with quart markings notated on it. I want to stick with the Toyota ATF fluid.

That's good info and I would add that the fluid should be warm when you drain it.
