Is Yukon selling 4.88’s now? When I bought mine Nitro had the only 4.88’s for the 8.75” TRD OR

We are an authorized dealer for Yukon gear. They are a very popular product. If I can help, feel free to direct message me. I can get a quote together for you.

Your MPGs will suffer a lot, but if you're ok with that, go ahead man.

I don’t think it will. Most people running 4.88s are on 33s which isn’t that much bigger than the stock tire and the final drive ratios for the AT is still higher than the MT on stock gears.

yeah, if anything my mpg's might actually go up. the rpms at 60mph may be higher, but the load demand would be less.

i did ask about 4.30's only because i figured i could get them cheaper than $1200 for 4.88's and they'd be toyota gears. But the gain is so minimal at the higher gears it's not really worth it. But 4.88's would really wake the truck up and be better for hauling too which seems to be what i'm doing more of now.

Once i use up the stock good years, i'll probably upgrade to a somewhere within a 31 to 32" tall tire.

Low end power will be great, don't get me wrong. It will be a lot easier for your engine and transmission to spin those tires, and if you are hauling a lot, you may gain mpgs, but higher rpm= lower milage. Just remember at freeway speed you are going to lose mpg if you're not hauling any load.

Do the OVTUNE first then consider gearing. I went to gears first because I tow. Stock tires. City mpg average 22 when not towing. Highway mileage 24 mpg at 65 mph. Towing mpg less but hey you are towing. Added the OVTune to fix shifting, dead pedal feel, power and general drivability. Only reason I say OVTUNE first is that the cost is much less than gearing and it may be all you want. If not- add the gears.

Nah, again the final drive ratio with 4.88 on an AT is STILL higher than the MT with stock 4.30s. Might lose maybe 1 mpg as hes running, 3.36 and 2.83 final drive ratios

I did this. Went OVTUNE first, then to 4.88's. The Tune helped, but the gears helped even more(I'm running 35's). Together the combo is awesome, it drives better than a stock truck..even with all the added weight.

o_O So am I reading that the '16 and up trucks have an 8.75" rear now? I thought they still had the same rears that the 2nd gens had.

Trucks with the E-locker or MT trucks have the 8.75 axle...

I've read some of the mega thread. It seems like mpgs are hurt in most cases, worse than the gear ratios on paper would suggest. That may be due to driving characteristics though.
