I get that, it's one of the reasons I'm happy sticking to .223 right now. Supply is rarely an issue.

yup, actually this rifle was initially .223. I love shooting .223. helps you learn to read wind better.
this is a switch bolt head/barrel type rifle build.

That's cool. I've thought about doing a similar thing with my axis. The cheap and easy availability of donor rifles means that I could feasibly have one rifle and multiple barrels for it, all I'd have to do is use a Barloc or similar to switch cartridges on the fly. And I REALLY would love to build the world's first 7SAUM Axis. All things in time...

Chassis expected to arrive Wednesday. Hoping to take it out Thursday with some new development loads and get started on making these ELD's sing.

So Im trying to learn some stuff about reloading. A friend has a 6.5 creedmore and is working with different powders with 140grain bullet. Is there a specific powder or powder load that holds really good groups? Also should you look for muzzle velocity or accuracy down range? He's got a bunch of different powders, I just wondered what is the best muzzle velocity and accuracy with the 140gr bullet? Thanks.

According to precisionrifleblog.com, PRS shooters send 140gr rounds at 2770ish out of most 6.5's. I know that H4350 does well for that application. I think the formula I've heard works very well is a berger 140gr hybrid over H4350 and a CCI 450 primer, in Lapua brass. 6.5 Creedmoor or 6.5x47 Lapua.

You need to tune the load to the rifle. Find a powder and projectile you would like to work with. Load up some rounds, I usually will do 0.2 grain steps I start just below max published and go up. Don’t get too wadded up about chasing velocity, your gun may like 2725 maybe it likes 2780, I’ve gone through as few as 20 rnds tuning a load and as many 50+ I would look for accuracy more so than velocity

H4350 is the go to powder as stated above.

    I have run it with .260 Remington (6.5mm), .243 Winchester (6mm), and 6x47L (6mm) with great results.

As @P2W stated accuracy over velocity. If you find a load that shoots good @ 100 yards then also test further out to make sure it works at distance as well.

I don’t know if I would categorize one powder being better over another because they will perform differently form one barrel to another and that’s part of the fun and the Chase is figuring out what is optimum for your barrel but most people tend to gravitate towards this powder although it seems quite hard to find, probably because they’re all looking for it! LOL

Baboom! Bad picture, but the XLR chassis looks dope. We'll see how it affects groups soon I hope.

you want to look for an accuracy node. first find a node with a low ES(extreme spread) for multiple charges. then fine tune by adjusting the bullets seating depth from there, to shrink the group.

that's how you'll find a consistent load. like other have said. I wouldn't chase speed. chase consistency, repeatability, reliability.

I figure velocity doesnt matter, just accuracy. If you chase velocity then your accuracy might change...

is the H4350 good in different temps? Thats what Im reading is the H4350 is what most people like.

    h4350 is very good/popular. it's temperature insensitive.

fyi-i'd don't normally load develop until after 100-150 rounds. break in the barrel, cause they tend to speed up around then. so I do it afterwards.

This is a perfect example of one rifle preferring a certain combination over other rifles. You can clearly see the my 6.5 prefers the IMR powder over the H powder
