What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Uhh not really. Should be simple though, you plug it into one of your old headlight sockets so it knows when to turn it's relays on for low and high beam. Then it should have a dedicated positive that hose to your battery positive post. And then each output socket should have a ground that also needs to go to a body ground screw, there were body ground close to both headlights so it was easy. Then just plug the output sockets into your new lights and tie the relays up somewhere so they aren't just hanging around loosely. You won't need the stock headlight plug on the passenger side anymore as the conversion harness only needs input from one side

Actually I’m a liar I double checked and it appears his pricing is $65 for the raw aluminum, $85 for the powder coat. Don’t know where I pulled that $120 out of.

I hear ya. On every vehicle I have owned I have never had to use anything other than my hand to take of the oil filter. I used to work in automotive, of course we had one at the shop but I still have all my tools & an oil filter wrench is not a tool that I own.

Wix is a good brand, I've always used them too but never their oil filters on this truck but no reason at all why i'm not. Fuel filter yes.

I paid $4.44 + $.75 shipping no tax for the D3 filter from a Toyota dealer through ebay. How they can sell them that cheap with shipping is beyond me. Ixm sure if I walk into one of my local dealers the price won't be $6 though. After I use my last Mobil1 filter I'll buy a multi pack of the D3 filters online.

Edit: Just checked, looks like they raised the price, it's $4.60 + $2.65 shipping now. No matter, don't need one for a while so I'll keep my eye out for a good price.

Yup that's on of the threads I was reading (videos too) one late night when I could sleep. Had I not seen that thread I'd probably have kept wasting money on Mobil1 filters.

 

I don't crawl malls, only Lowes & Home Depot.

 

Smiths has some pretty bad ass speed bumps and curbs here

 

Really simple, I know it would be simple for you too. Screw on the adapter where the stock filter goes, install 2 hose barbs in the adapter, dill a few holes, mount the remote filter mount, install 2 more hose parbs on the remote mount, connect 2 hoses & that's it. You can go with AN lines if you want. I just went with standard high pressure oil hose but just got to check them for age. I've replaced the hoses only once in the 14 yrs i've had it. I'll probably change the hoses out again later this year.

Hardest part is gathering all the materials & figure out where you want to mount the remote mount. Mine is made by Permacool but there's other brands too, bought my new mount from Summit. There's plenty of other configurations, like LH, RH, dual filter, oil filter thread size. You can also buy kits & there's also fancy expensive CNC machined ones too if you feel like spending money. IMO better to just buy the individual parts so you can choose what setup you want.

 

We don't have Smiths here but hell no, I ain't crusing over no big ass speed bumps, wouldn't want to break a lower ball joint.

 

Why though

 

WTF, that's not even the ball joint that broke, looks like just the bolts. Walk back into the hardware store, buy new bolts, fix truck, then cruise to the mall.

 

I lost a bolt or two at some point I guess, cv axle, ubj, inner TR Gonzo’d, pretty simple now, but it wasn’t at the moment.
