I got the first side filled and primed. I think it is going to look great! Much better than rusty fenders...

Still need to seam seal the back side, then will paint a slightly mismatched angled red stripe to the top of the bed.

Skim coat of filler, glazing putty and sanded with 220

Looks really good! From the photos I can even tell it's a new panel in there

    Thanks, that was my plan!

BTW, I checked the fenders to see if there is a salvageable piece for you to use. There is not anything with a close enough radius. Sorry!

No Problem. Thanks for taking the time to look. I may just prime and paint up the bare metal areas of that side and throw the flare back on for now. I ordered a wheel arch panel the other day to fix up the effed up passenger side.

Thanks! We'll see about the color. Thought a different red would look less conspicuous, not sure I like it...

Not too bad! I think it will look fine once I get the truck washed and shined up.

I also took the time to remove the factory stripes since they were starting to look a little shabby.

Final prepping for CMCC @ Rausch next week.

I had my starter rebuilt by a local shop. It stuck ON for a little while while coming home from wheeling this winter, and it had started clicking in the past few months.

It was one of the toughest starters I've ever replaced! Didn't help that it was like 95 out this week...

    20180629_210242.jpg

I also think I finally figured out my clutch slipping issue from a few pages back. The clutch would chatter for the first few starts in the morning. I realized that I had a leak at the rear of my valve cover that was dripping oil on the top of the bell housing.

I replaced the valve cover gasket. We shall see if it fixed the issue!

I got the new fender arch in the mail a couple days ago along with some color match paint as well. I’m hoping to cut out the section I need here soon. Hopefully I’ll have pics of some progress by next week sometime.
Yours looks like it came pretty nice. Great work!

Here’s a pic of the passenger side. I need to do a little body filler then primer and paint.

    A few tweaks
After nearly a year since swapping in a later model tacoma elocker axle, I finally got my electric locker wired. My truck is a 96 and was not wired for a locker so I had to improvise.

I did not use factory wiring or any other kit. The parts I used are all listed below.

This is a pretty standard method that many people have used to wire the Toyota lockers. There is no need for the ECU, factory wiring, or for relays - it is all done through the switch.

You do need the 3' pigtail that plugs into the locker and the diff.

I used the following diagram shamelessly stolen from somewhere on the internet:
    38990760231_921c1c206f_o.jpg

I used a OTRATTW switch - purchased from Low Range Offroad -

    frontlockerswitch.jpg

I used 7 conductor trailer wire I purchased from Jegs. If I had it to do over again I would try to find something that has all 14 gauge wires. The black and the ground on this were much heavier gauge and the overall cable was pretty beefy! You also only need 6 wires.
    555-80315.jpg

Here is the wiring to the switch with my notes for the trailer wire colors:

    upload_2018-7-8_22-52-40.jpg

I also had to look up how to time (index) the motor and the locker correctly:

    upload_2018-7-8_23-4-35.jpg

    Yee ha!!
    20180708_222330.jpg

Here is a lame video of it working:

Warping wasn’t too bad but it definitely needs filler in some areas. I spot welded it in going around clockwise until it was all filled in. There were a few decent gaps I had to fill in with weld that made it a little rough in spots.

For paint I got this stuff from automotivetouchup.com The base coat is color matched using the factory paint code. From what I read pearl colors are tough to match exactly do we’ll see how it goes.

Truck did great for 3 straight days of wheeling at Rausch. I enjoyed the locker greatly.

I'm usually the smallest truck in my group, but man does this thing go!

Gonna try for dual cases this fall. Just can't quite go slow enough on the tough stuff.

    Didn't take a single picture...

Headed to the beach for vacation in a few weeks and needed some waterproof storage for my trailer. I made sure they will also fit into the back of the Taco! Looking for ideas on how to fasten them into the truck yet still easily removable when I need to use the bed.

They are really nice for the $70 price tag. Locking too!

HERE is the link on Amazon.
