I love Toyota and my Tacoma for its reliability. I purchased it because at the time there were only 2-3 midsize trucks in the class and it was the best (GM sucks and Nissan has been neglected even by Toyota standards). However, I do follow the truck market in general and realized how behind the times Toyota is. Currently still peddling a 11 year old Tundra and a Tacoma that gets worse MPG than all three domestic full-size trucks. I anxiously waited for the third generation to be released only to be disappointed with a joke of an engine and what, 1mpg better mpg?

Does Toyota not understand the American truck marker? Do they just not care?

Tacoma's are selling like hotcakes, I would say Toyota understands the American truck market better than anyone else.

I tested all the midsize trucks and still picked the Tacoma because it felt neither like a small land yatch nor a Holden product. It’s a truck.

Yeah, they are selling. I feel they are relying on the cred they received with the original Toyota Truck being so indestructible AND the udder lack of completion. GM is garbage and the Nissan is incredibly antiquated. Drivetrain wise, what do you feel was improved between 2005 and today? Pretty much the same hp/tq and 1mpg increase?

Yeah, nice truck. They added some nice features. But left much to be desired. Imagine if they would a similar engine as the ecoboost 2.7 and a 8+speed transmission? There is no reason a truck this size isn't getting better mpg. (to this, I expect the normal responses such as "if you want better mpg buy a car")

Nah, you have a right to ask for better mpg if you want it. There are a few things Toyota could have given us like power adjustable seats and Apple CarPlay
