Hey Tacoma world. I'm Brad. Just got a new 2018 Tacoma TRD off road 4x4 double cab short bed. I have decided to turn my truck into an overlanding beast (over time). I figured what better way to learn than from other people who are into the same stuff.

I have a little experience working on motorcycles, and no experience building up a truck. But, I'm excited to learn, I'm good with my tools, and I'm not worried about doing the work myself.

Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself. Easy day!

OME HD Lift all around, SCS SR8 Rims, 255 85 R16 Cooper ST Maxx, Decked Drawers, 30" Rigid Pro Light bar above bumper on Rago Mounts, Rigid Dually Side Shooters on Rago ditch brackets, Hondo Garage Un-Holey Phone Mount X2, Hondo Radio Knobs AR Bolt Face, Garmin InReach SE GPS synch'ed to Iphone for GPS only mapping, Wet Okole Seat Covers, Husky Liner Contour floor mats, 63 QT ARB Fridge on Alu-Cab tilting slide. GoFastCamper (#41), ARB 2500 Awning with Full Room, Mobtown Off-road Sliders and Full Aluminum Skids.
Welcome, I started the same thing myself in March this past year with a 2017 Tacoma OR DCSB. I'll include a picture of how she sits today. I'm waiting on my new Go Fast Camper (If you're looking at an adventure build that would be a good thread to check out).

Long story short you don't NEED anything for an Overland Build your OR is GTG how she sits, that said you may WANT to upgrade your suspension, I added the heaviest coils (886X) and +660lb rear leafs from OME. The one thing about these Overland builds, they get heavy!!!!

    Tacoma.jpg
3" OME Lift from @HeadStrong Off-Road , SCS SR8 Wheels @SCSPerformance , 255 85 R16 Cooper Discover STT Maxx, Sliders and Full Skids from @Mobtown Offroad , Rigid lights mounted to stainless mounts from @ragofabrication , phone and gps mounts from @wileydavis and Hondo Garage, a Hitchgate Max from Wilco offroad, Decked drawer system, ARB Fridge, and finally a OEM Tacoma Pro Grille. If I did it over again I wouldn't change a thing.

All that said if you upgrade your suspension to better handle the increased weight, those tires will fit on your rims, when I first approached this project I REALLY REALLY wanted to use a mid cab height rack and roof top tent to stay below roof level (better weight distribution and aerodynamics, maybe I should have stuck to that plan) I won't know until my GoFastCamper is completed at the end of the month. Here's a few great threads on a few of the "Overland" concepts and campers on here as of late.

    Go Fast Campers

Assorted Wedge camper threads (they're pretty much all here so see what you like)

    "the Drifter"
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-drifter-specs-and-faq.540826/

800+ Pages of Roof Top Tents
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-rtt-owners-thread-with-bs.312269/

That should get you started. Feel free to ask anything you'd like to know, but please use the search function first, if you're curious about something it's likely been asked on here a few dozen times. Good luck with your build. This reminds me I really need to update my build thread.

If you decide there's anything you gotta have you can PM and I can try to steer you to the cheapest place, I spent a lot on my build but I'm a cheap ass so you'd better believe I found the best price before buying. HAHA.
