Ripping through a tight series of turns, Hand slipped off the bar here, sent it right off the trail, bike hit the rock and right tree, and I flew through the trees. I'm surprised I walked away from that one. Im like 3/3 this season, all my bad crashes have been sending it too hard through turns. Jump after jump after jump, all fine so far, the turns tho

    I fuckin lost lol
Wanted to go ride tomorrow, figured out the true extent of that crash...cracked the tube about a third of the way around, only figured it out because I tipped the bike over and fluid came oozing out!

Compared to my dirt bikes I used to have...this thing isn’t very tough lol! One medium wipe out and I’m out 700 bucks for new forks. B57EE81F-6243-4E39-AE24-77F0BF1402AB.jpg

Hello everyone, I have a Mongoose Blackcomb. I use it to commute to work every day and do light trail riding. I've only added a seat post rack and EBC green disc brake pads which are 100% better than the previous pads. I also removed the "dork disc", and added security skewers and seat post mount. The rest of the bike works for what it is, but the front fork is useless. I need help figuring out what fork to replace it with. I don't know anything about the headset sizing, pitch, all that stuff. I'm a noob. The only info I could find on the fork was on a Chinese website.

I was thinking of getting a Suntour fork but not sure what to get. My budget is <$200.

Before all of you jump on me for having a shitty bike, I wouldn't be upset if this bike were stolen. It sits outside all day while I'm at work, I do use a cable lock but they're easily defeated. I've already had this same bike model stolen from me in college. I guess it looks better than it really is.. who knows. I've been the victim of all sorts of theft.. so I don't want to ride around a $2k bike in the city.

Here's the "information" about my current fork. What replacement options do I have?

Here's some pictures of it. I've been riding it 2 miles round trip to work almost every day since Christmas. Snow, ice, torrential downpours, 10 degrees, 100 degrees. I've only washed it once but I've made sure to clean and lube the chain often, and adjust the brakes and derailleur as necessary. I've sprayed down rust prone areas with lube as well as areas that get squeaky.

I don't think that fork info is accurate, that info is for a 20-24" wheel and you have 26". Oh, and you need to charge your phone.

Plenty of options on Amazon, Suntour XCM is probably the cheapest. There's a Manitou as well: https://www.amazon.com/Manitou-Moun...1533298023&sr=8-3&keywords=mountain+bike+fork

If you haven't done it before, I would recommend taking it to a local shop to have it installed. The tube has to be cut to the right length and relatively straight, star nut installed, and adjusted properly.

Does it matter which fork I get? Or do I just need to focus on getting a 26" fork? I'm not sure if I have a "tapered" headset or not. I think I'm using the right terms. :anonymous:

Ya, the outer fork tube. It’s still an Xc bike so no triple clamp, so I can’t just replace one fork can I?
Gonna call the place I bought it from and see what they recommend/can do. Probably nothing but it’s worth a try

That fork is 100% McFucked. Should be able to just replace the lower fork and keep the steerer/stanchion assembly/innards.

Only concern I would have is that if it cracked the outside that bad, the stanchion inside got schwacked as well.

I love the color schemes on those forks

I second this notion. All very good advice

Holy shit I've never seen that happen to a mtb fork. Also I laughed out loud about being mcfuckedup

I've seen the lower fork snap both stanchions clean off once, but never rupture like that. Had to have hit a sharp edge rock like REALLY hard to do that.

From the pics, your fork is a 1 1/8" straight, not tapered. Your wheels appear to be 26", so get a 26" fork. What is hard to tell is whether you might need a new headset (the bearings and races that the steerer turns inside of). A bike shop would help you figure that out. Hard to tell if that is a 100mm or 80mm travel fork, but I would just go with 100mm. So, 26", 1 1/8" steerer, 100mm travel. Or just go to your LBS and tell them your fork is terrible. They might be able to tune that one up, and if not, they can get you everything you need. At least it's not McFucked like that other guy's.

You're welcome, good luck. Further up this thread, a guy posted a pic of his completely busted fork.

Would this work? It says it for disc, I've seen some odd looking mounts on others that I know for sure will not work, but I think my current calipers will bolt up to this one.
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/SR-Suntour-XCM-Suspension-Fork-26-1-1-8-255mm-threadless-steer-100mm-Black/401559604481?epid=1038439463&hash=item5d7ed14d01:g:il4AAOSwtoVbNVPb&_sop=15&_sacat=0&_nkw=sr+xcm+fork+26&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0

I probably won't get this one but idk, maybe something a bit better. But want to make sure I'm getting the proper specs correct. The only thing I'm not sure of is threaded or not threaded. I assume mine is threadless since I dont see anywhere it would "thread" on.

Maybe these? It says they're coil but they look like an air fork. Description says they can be set up either way??
