I bought some of those, I need to try out soon as the water warms a bit and weather breaks!

Top water can be so much fun. Nothing gets the heart racing like a big blow up.

Yeah, when a fish hammers the surface it's a blast. But even with 3 treble hooks, they miss the lure half the time! I actually had 2 smallmouth 17-18" each on the lure at the same time and a 3rd fish was still chasing it. I was trying to net the 2 fish and one of them got off just as I got the net under them so I only got one fish in the boat. I throw everything back so no big deal.

The first time I ever tried this lure was when the river was so full of weeds/grass that you couldn't work anything below the surface without getting snagged. So I put this on and my buddy was like 'what the heck is that?' and before he could stop laughing I had a smallmouth hammer it. The real trick is making sure the propellers spin properly to make as much noise as possible. It works best when the water is not too deep and nice and clear.

Rapala X-Rap in blue mackerel. It works for yellowtail, barracuda, bonito, and even tuna.

It's still too early for the topwater so I've been using a Mann's baby 1 minus crankbait in chartreuse. I've gotten a few 14-18" smallmouth with it so far and a bunch of smaller ones as well. It doesn't run very deep and being a floater, you don't have to worry about snagging rocks.

Not a lure, but bait... I’ve always enjoyed fishing for spadefish with clams. It’s always so calm and never frantic (unless all 4 rods go down at once which happens sometimes), no casting or trolling. It was always my job to crack the fresh clams over the side with the handle of a butter knife and cut up the clam into big strips. Worked for bait as well as chum.
