Bought a group 31 vmax battery about 2 weeks ago but cables weren't even close to reaching plus it was a threaded type post but I didnt want to cut the cables either. So I came up with this. Is there any foreseeable problems other than it being a big area for a short out (fumbling wrenchs). Might slide a heat shrink sleeve over the bars.20180804_130802.jpg 20180804_130843.jpg

Looks ok. But why not just get the battery with the terminals on the other side. Both configurations are usually available.

Ordered the wrong number by accident but this battery had quite a bit more capacity and it was going to be around 70 bucks return shipping. Vmax batteries from what I can tell doesn't have a lot of configurations that would not require lengthening the cables even if it were a post type. But I could be wrong...

Makes sense. I’d just insulate the bars a little just to prevent accidental shorting. Otherwise you should be good.

Maybe wrap them in some sort of insulator?

Thought about using a shrink wrap tube.

So many more connections giving more chance of a bad one.

Sometimes we all just work with what we have on hand .

Cover the positive side for sure

Time will tell if things work out

Seems legit-ish. Definitely insulate the hot side or it will bite you one day (murphy's law). I've got the same tray sitting in my garage waiting on a battery. Just haven't bought it yet.

Good solution, and when you have to replace it years down the road, you can get a correct battery and everything will fit again, with no splices in anything.
Looks like it may be prying on the front battery terminals, can't really tell in the photo. If so, some sort of plastic shim under the back bolt heads will save the battery.

I would just make all new cables .

It only costs me some time and a few lugs

Short pieces of welding cable just get thrown out I recycle it

Plenty long enough for battery cables

Double shrink the bars to prevent issues. You should be okay, but like previously said, more connection issues which can give more issues down the road.

Yeah, I'd be worried about working near that battery and hitting that + bar with a screwdriver/wrench. Otherwise it's a pretty crafty solution.

I had a similar issue with my Group 31. A set of SLEE terminals not only solved the problem, but made it way easier to manage my winch, fuse block, etc.

Can't find a photo of mine, but here is another member's:
