So the wife and I went up to VA this past weekend to look at houses South of Richmond and they cost more than a two houses around here. Of all the places we looked at up there I found similiar houses based on (bed rooms-bathrooms-sq footage- garage space) and came to the conclusion that I can get a 4 bedroom 2.5 bath w/ garage in the area around here forthe price of a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath condo/townhouse in VA.

It's re-fuckin-diculous, it wouldn't be that big a deal cause the military gives us BAH but they don't give enough. I can only afford either gotta live in the ghetto across the street from a whore house and next to a meth lab or I gotta live in a 2 bedroom apartmen that is only like 800 sq ft. That from the looks of it is gov subsidized housing, one of the place we looked 3 of the townhouse (in different part of the complex) had burned down. With the ammount of BAH we get we couldn't find shit.

Does anyone know of an area South of Richmond within 30 min of Fort Lee where I can get a descent place for 800-900 a month rent 2-3 beds 2 bath atleast 1100 sq ft

Not much......college student using the GI Bill to survive.
Good luck on your search. Don't ever get stationed in Northern VA cause the cost of living only gets worst. :)

I feel your pain brother. I went from a 2000 square foot 4 bedroom house in Jacksonville Florida that I paid $900 a month for, to a 2 bedroom 1000 square foot townhouse in Philadelphia that I paid $1800 a month for. Thank god for the orders to Texas.

To answer your question: Supply and demand. I am not trying to be sarcastic. A lot of people want to live in that area, which is nice, and there is not enough "nice" housing to go around at a reasonable price.

The denser the population the more demand. Good luck in your search.

apparently I pissed off the Philly people again.. whatever.. but.. yeah I am trying to find houses online for the areas south of the base.. but there isnt much online for Look in Dinwiddie, Prince George, Amelia, Powhatan, ect

I just wanna live within 30 min of Ft. Lee. and not in Petersburg or Ettrick.. it is straight GHETTO.. we had a realtor tell us about a place.. it didnt have a door knob, missing windows and the houses next to it were dilapidated and graffiti'd..

I just want to live somewhere that is less Inner city and more comfortable and easy going.. I grew up in Clinton, MD outside of DC.. I know that all cities have rough parts and there nicer parts.. but after looking at crime statistics and what not.. im not looking to live in Petersburg or Ettrick that had a number of homocides, rapes, assults, robberies etc.. I want somewhere i will feel safer leavin my wife and son at home when im at work.

We really wanna live on base. but they wont give us and good details on if and when something would be available
