The Red Truck belongs to my good buddy @Boomtacoma01 . He's been talking about a back half and links for the rig for who knows how long. So now it's time. Follow along here as I do my best to get rid of those pesky leafs.

    2018-08-05 16.47.51-1.jpg

The first step was to prep the rear. Chris had already removed a good amount of gear from the back, but the ol' flatbed was still around. Time for that to go.

    2018-08-05 18.45.18.jpg
    2018-08-05 18.45.33.jpg
    2018-08-05 18.49.22.jpg

I was able to start pulling dimensions for the hard points of the back half since the bed was gone. The top string is where the to bedside will be. The other two represent the top of the frame rail and the lower portion of the back at the rear.

Magnets, string, and my weld cart came in handy.

    2018-08-06 11.23.15.jpg
    2018-08-06 11.23.27.jpg

I chose to record the measurements directly into cad instead of paper. This way I can pull distances between points that I didn't record earlier.

    Screenshot 2018-08-06 20.27.14.jpg Screenshot 2018-08-06 20.27.00.jpg
The next step is to model the back half, coilovers, air bumps, fuel cell, cooler, toolbox, axle, and links. I'll be using Bendtech to create the 3D model. If I do it right I'll be able to pull a bill of materials direct from the software. Should be fun.

Here's what we're shooting for. This is a rough draft, but it'll give you an idea of what's going on.

We're zeroing in on the final design for the back half. I'm hoping to start bending tube early next week.

I made some decent progress today. Getting all seven bends in the same plane was a trick for sure.

All crossed up. I’m moving towards chopping the frame now.

And just like that the frame is gone. I’ll be cutting frame plates and picking up some tube tomorrow, so look for an update Sunday.
