You can get one. I'm not the type to tell people what to do as 1) not getting paid to do that 2) who am "I" to do that 3) nobody is going to care what "I" say 4) etc etc etc

Just know that you canNOT jump on a repeater is by FAR the main thing. Most people aren't running CB around this area... I won't get into some long winded discussion on that one regarding pros/cons. Me, personally, I have CB, HAM, GMRS/FRS, and even a 800MHz scanner along with other radio hook-ups and one on the way. Then there is the cell phone as part of my communications package!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The point being is that when in a trail group 99% or even 100% of the people are only going to have HAM type radios. Most of your trail runners are running with the handheld Baofeng radios very similar to the one at the very bottom of this page for... currently $24.81 and try to get it with an external MIC. BUT, be aware that you may or may not have to "unlock" the frequency band range???!!! For some DUMBA$$ reason, some of those units get shipped out with the HAM band only frequency, meaning you can't TX out of band. Then you have some of those units that the frequency band is, more or less, wide open!!! For example, the 2m HAM band is from 144-148MHz. If your radio was not wide open on that band, meaning say that you wanted to TX 151.xxxx? Well, if the radio is "locked" then it will only TX with the frequency of the HAM band only and you won't be able to TX on 151.xxxx!!!

So, just making sure that you and whomever else is reading this is aware of that FACT!!!

You can "unlock" the frequency band by using/buying a programming cable and the CHiRP software. I've never personally done it, but know people that have. I hear that it is pretty straight forward.

Anyways... you know how/where to reach me for further questions!!!:fistbump::oldglory:

Takes minor trimming/massaging to fit, but makes the battery life usually 1-2 weekend excursions long. along with a new antennae, it makes the thing pretty useful. Not as good as my 60w in the crawler, but much cheaper and easier.
