I myself am thinking of the AFE dry drop in, only because I'm due for a new air filter and plan to keep my truck for another 7 yrs or so.

Does anyone know anything about cold air intakes for gen2 Tacoma’s? Recommendations, good/bad? Worth the trouble? I have a trd exhaust and am wondering if it will change the sound of my truck much and are there any gains. Also fuel economy changes?

For being a newbie I’ll cut you some slack. Don’t waste your money. A lot of people believe noise makes power.

You will only really see gains if you are boosted. Otherwise it's just noise.

Back in the day of the Dodge 225 slant six and Chevy 230 inline six, I used to flip my air cleaner upside down to get more air into the carb.
I was probably getting poorer gas mileage afterwards since my right foot got heavier but I did enjoy the sound.

No. But i've heard it does sound really good paired with the TRD exhaust. (I ran the TRD intake for a while and then sold it. Didn't notice any power or MPG gains).

This is the best cai for tacomas. It mounts through the fender like a snorkel.

No, your truck already has a cold air intake on it. Comes that way from factory.

I put a K&N cold air intake on my 2.7 and it is just louder. I get slightly better mpg, but it’s within 1. Here’s a pic of mine0E732594-BA42-41E1-81C4-BA4B26715066.jpg

Yes. Everyone has one. Factory. I'm sure you're talking big dollar aftermarket though, right?

    Define 'worth' to you.

Some. Not sure what that is worth though.

    Noise.

    No.

If you have a 4.0 V6, check out the URD TCAI. It makes alot of noise, but prior to my install, my intake temps were 10-15 degrees above ambient temps. Now my intake temps are equal to ambient temps

Pulls in air from the grille area. I noticed power gains, but im supercharged

CAI can have a negative impact on fuel economy. The computer will always go for the correct air fuel mix based on the O2 sensor. Denser air means the throttle is more closed so more restriction getting the same weight of air into the engine. A warm air intake can get you better fuel economy. You end up with a wider open throttle and less resistance in the whole intake tract to get the same weight of fuel.

A WAI will have a negative impact on power though. Warm air has fewer air molecules which means the FI can throw less fuel in so you get less power.
