Does anyone even check the dipstick between oil changes?

I have to admit, I don’t. Haven’t pulled the dipstick (haha, the one in my truck I meant) out in at least a couple years of driving the truck.

I have oil changes down to a science with my cheap Walmart oil, OEM filter and Fumoto valve. Every 6,000 miles I do my 10 minute oil change myself and off I go. 183,000 miles on my 2015 and runs better than the day I brought her home.

Oh and I might add, I’m running on the original tranny fluid. I know some of you will do somersaults when you read this...:crapstorm:

A fool and his money are soon parted.....

You only have to check gap, not replace plugs.

I have been doing this for 30 years now.

It wont hurt anything but your wallet to change plugs, crush washers or your oil and filters every 3k miles

its amazing that people don't do the recommended manufactorers maintainence items cause they are too cheap to do it, and then wonder why they have a catastrophic break downs at huge costs, or don't give a crap either way. my brother is that way he is too cheap to change the fluids and use the recommended fluids in his chevy s10, recently he used a non DEXCOOL coolant in the radiator and it gelled up now he has clogged radiator, heater core, water pump shot, just plain dumb and cheap but now it costs 3 times as much to fix than just doing the required maintainence with proper fluids.

This thread certainly took a hard right into the ditch.

Back to the topic of oil brands...

At the end of the day, there's no definitive facts that validate one brand over the other. I think the lesson here is, as long as you use the recommended weight, use which ever brand suits your needs the most, whether that be price, solving a perceived issue, brand loyalty, or just peace of mind. No matter what needs you satisfy, you can't go wrong with any of the brands.

Well said REN. I’ve stated similar on numerous oil threads but it doesn’t seem to sink in. Many promote a certain brand for unfounded, non scientific and somewhat mysterious and mystical reasons. What brand a person uses really makes no difference. What is critical is that the oil and filter be changed at periodic intervals not exceeding manufacturers recommended intervals.
Everyone has a favorite oil but it’s always based on hearsay and marketing. I have a favorite too but I know in reality it doesn’t make any difference what brand I use. Over the years I’ve used at least a dozen different brands and types. Each one was my favorite until I discovered a new favorite.

I tend to agree here. But I also stay away from Pennzoil and Quaker state simply cause my Dad told me about his experience with them years ago, and the sludge build up issues they had due to paraffin wax. Call it speculation, and hearsay because thats exactly what it is, I'm simply basing my purchase off of what other people tell me. But, whatever is usually on sale is what I end up with. Valvoline, Castrol, Napa brand etc...just not the "Pennsylvania grade" oils due to aforementioned hearsay. Its rare that I pay more than $20 for 5 qts of dino juice since I catch the sales.

I know that is use to back in the day, but i can not find anything saying it still does. Plus with pennzoil using natural gas base now i dont see how the “Wax” deal is still around with any oil that is API certified
