I’ve found that one cube works just as well as two. Even with a full chimney.

Oh, and I've done the doritos before (curiosity took over). But unfortunately I don't get to keep those kind of snacks in the house anymore lol

Here’s my weber kettle snake method. I used a couple of bricks and then just pour the briquettes around them.

The bricks I’ve found hold heat really well and smooth out all the fluctuations in temp.

    0A5C8975-98A5-4F6D-B64C-75961D861ABF.jpg

This started out as about 2/3 bag of royal oak briquettes. The pic was after I used half of them in about 9 hours. So I think I’m ready to try a bigger piece of meat, like a turkey or brisket.

Same here. According to Amazon I go through ~144 of them a year, one at a time. Even though they are up to .17 each now still good bang for the buck IMO. And are predictable. In the smoker I create a crater in the center then light one and stack charcoal around it. After a few cooks you know about how far to let it go before it is time to assemble the rest of the smoker.

Plain old vegetable oil. I usually use 2 full sized sheets or 3 of the select a size. Kind of shape it like a bowl (I use the top of the chimney) and pour enough oil into it to get it a little wet. Wad it up and light it.

I now have a Weber performer and just use the gas assist. Before I figured out the paper towel thing, I was using newspaper and getting a ton of ash flying around. The paper in a paper towel is way thinner and lighter than newspaper so it all just burns away.
