I noticed a clicking noise coming from my front end tonight, from inside the cab it sounds like its coming from the front right wheel.

After inspecting it, i didnt find any nails or anything. I figured id check the left tire too just in case, and i found a nail in it. Is this probably what is causing my noise, even if it seems like its coming from the right tire?

That nail isn’t making a clicking noise, it’s in-between the tread and doesn’t actually touch the surface of the road that would cause a clicking sound. I would bet the clicking noise was from a rock stuck in the tread. That nail has probably been in there a while.

Nope. A nail regardless of where it's located on the tread will not make a noticeable noise. Jack up the front tires and manually spin them to see if you can replicate the noise. You might as well grab each tire at the 12/6 o'clock position and check for faulty wheel bearings. Then pull of the tires and check the brake pads and brake dust shields.

The good news is you found you have a tire that needs repair before it went flat on a dark rainy night that you were all dressed up and running late. :D

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I have an idea...pull the nail and fix the tire. Take a drive and see if the clicking noise is gone. If yes: problem solved. If no: investigate further.

Whatever you do don't pull that nail, it's holding in the air.

Do you have a hot glue gun?

But I'm at least as old, if not older, than the OP. Some people continue to learn and change, some folks stay stuck in a rut. We need to clear out and quit cluttering up this guys thread.....

A nail or screw in a tire WILL make a clicking noise when driving on a smooth road at slow speed, at least until the head is worn off. Pull that nail our, plug it, and see if the noise goes away.

Well it seems this morning on my way to work the noise is gone.. So i'm taking the tire with the nail in to get fixed anyway, and if the noise comes back i'll jack up the front end and check the wheel bearings.

The wheel bearings don't seem like they would be an intermittent issue though, right?

Thanks for all the input, I didn't think that nail could be making that much noise but wanted a second/third/fourth/maybe fifth opinion

It could have been a rock/concrete chunk in the tread that finally released too. Thus no more noise.

True, but look closely at his picture. That object/nail/screw is not going to make any noise. It's below the contact surface.
