    Just the basics
Lots of smoke in Owens Valley from the fires. This morning was better. Nice and clear. Getting hazy again now.

Anyone do any camping in the Mount Rogers National Rec Area (Jefferson National Forest) in SWVA? Looking for some roadside camping off of forest roads. Preferably by a running water and away from campgrounds. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks

Nearly a year ago, a group of us did a trip through Montana, Wyoming, and eventually Utah. It's taken a while to write it up since it was such a crazy adventure and we had tons of photos to coordinate, but we've started - the first four chapters are posted already. Doing it a bit differently this time - @Blackdawg and I were both on the trip, so we're writing parallel stories. Pretty cool to see how we each remembered the same trip.

The De-Tour as told by Dan
    [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4]

    ...and as told by Monte
    [Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3] [Chapter 4]

bucket list trip for me.

thought i had a chance to maybe work in AUS for a while. :) my only non-negotiable terms of employment would have been a few weeks vacation to make that drive and a hilux at my disposal for such adventures. sadly the US's housing/construction recession of 2008 hit AUS in 2009 and all dreams were crushed. :( someday....

    i know that place... o_O
