You'll like the trueTrac, I got one installed when I re-geared to 4.30 and I believe it is worth every penny.

With this great outcome, I am now tempted to upgrade my front open carrier to a LS just like you did. This was a great research and I am glad it turned out so well for you.

Now if you would excuse me, I need to run to the corner store and get more popcorn and liquor so I can keep watching this thread.

Time for the build finale! I probably won't have any significant updates for this thread until I get both diffs back from ZUK and installed.

Thanks to this post I was able to score a sweet deal on eBay for a 3.91 3rd, which ZUK says is in great shape.

So far, this is still a relatively affordable upgrade:

    FRS/BRZ/86/is300 Torsen rear diff: $400
    FJC front AWD 3.91 diff w/tube: $375
Shipping both diffs to ZUK: $160
    ZUK front rebuild w/bearings: $900
    Front Total: $1835

    Tundra 3.91 3rd: $300
    Rear TrueTrac: $500

Make sure the Tundra drive shaft flange works on your truck. I know that on Tacomas pre 2003 it has a different pattern.
Now would be the time to swap that flange or you can run an adapter or double drill the flange to attach your drive shaft

Picked up the front diff and this AWD transfer case, naturally the plug casing on the actuator got smashed into pieces during shipping. Any ideas on how to repair or adapt without purchasing a whole new unit?

The outer casing, pins are slightly bent but look ok. I need to check and see if the receiver pieces are in the box, maybe epoxy them back on.

Op I am curious do you already have a manual transmission? I thought the fjc’s only came in awd for the manuals, which I think means that case wouldnt fit in an automatic tacoma. If so that sucks I’m going to have to convert to a manual too when I have enough $$ and time to do this.

I don’t remember the exact way, but it’s manual fj case will fit on the auto taco/runner
Look up fj case swap done by rst. He gives a lot of information about it

AWD case from 4Runner is another option but pretty sure you got that confused. Lots of folks just want a manual tcase and not necessarily an AWD tcase
