What made you want the longbox? I stuff a longbox with camping gear for two adults and two kiddos but I know I could fit it in a short box with a platform and cutting out the fluff. Would be nice to get rid of the 20 point turns on trails and around town in parking lots but maybe I'm being a pedant. I know I could get thru probably everything id give a go with just a rear locker but the atrac(MTS) sure is nice insurance.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
Just having a little extra space would have been nice. Right off the top I loose almost two feet of bed due to a tool box. Add in a large dog kennel and cooler, and the bed is pretty much full. If it wasn't for the tool box it wouldn't be half bad, but the box is a necessity for work, not to mention all my recovery gear and tools are in it. Part of my problem is I'm use to the room of a crew cab F250 with out a dog kennel. The wife and I could throw what ever we wanted in there and still have room to spare. Switching to the Tacoma has definitely made us more efficient at packing and what we really need. The attached picture if from a few days ago on our five day trip.

But I mean how much more room would 1' help when it looks like you're already stuffed to the gills? Maybe a roof rack would serve better than a long bed.

I would suggest getting things that fit the bed, or get rid of the toolbox if you don't need it for your job.

When we went to utah for a few weeks, we had 2 ice chest, 3 - 7gal water jugs, 3 plastic bin things, propane tank, 1 3gal fuel can, the annex, 2 cases of water, table, fold-able tent and mr. buddy heater.

I'm still in Newcastle right now. We sold our house in Renton and are closing on the new house next month in Maple Valley.

An extra foot wouldn't help a ton, but it would give me extra space to to put smaller things like water jugs or extra fuel. That being said I really like having the short bed and have no plans on getting a long bed, it's just some times it would be nice. We are planning on looking into bed racks, roof rack and a roof top tent with in the next year or so. The biggest thing for us is just to become more efficient at packing and what we really need. Unfortunately the tool box has to stay, due to a few things I need for my job.
