Hopefully someone can shed some light, losing my mind On this...

Trying to validate if there was a significant change to the Entune (non-JBL) so that it no longer “truly” works with Line Out Converters. I was working with a local retailer to install some Focals in front/rear, JL RD400/4 amp, and the LC7i LOC. Originally everything was good, but now their saying that 2018 Entune system “flips” the All Pass signal and this is screwing up everything and the LC7i will not fix (2018 only). Their recommendation is the JL VXI amp which has built in DSP. But it’s... $600 more than my current choice. When I asked what happens if we go with the LC7i they said the sound could be all over the place on certain tracks and worst case blow a speaker.

I did call Audio Control and the tech I spoke with said he was not aware of any issues and then he said he couldn’t follow the logic since it was signals. He said science didn’t back up what the audio store was saying. I also spoke with crutchfield and they couldn’t figure it what this shop was talking about. They recommended the LC7i.

Supposedly this is NEW info for the audio shop... 2 weeks ago, when they gave the initial quote, they would have installed it.

Note: I struggle understanding audio, so if my lingo off, my bad.

    Appreciate any info/clarification!

While I can't specifically answer your question, what I'm hearing is you need a second opinion from another shop.

From what I can see, the radio is the same model number from 2016-2018

If you can post the model number or a pic of the label on your 2018, i'll compare it to my 2017 (where I am currently running an LC7i with zero issues)

Thanks for replies! Yeah not sure that shop knew what they were talking about. They did contact me yesterday and say I can proceed with the JL RD400/4 amp as long as I get the Fix86 ($375). I told them thanks but no thanks.

With that said, another installer who has the Focals gave me a heck of a deal on an amp that has passive adapters (RCA) and will work just fine with factory HU. They also beat out the other shop by $60 on speakers. So this will be my setup:

    Front: Focal 165AS - $275
    Rear: Focal Auditors - $85
Amp: Arc Audio XDi 450.4 - $225 (discontinued and last one they have in stock... its $330 online)

With the amp, I found this from the owners manual “This XDi amplifier is equipped with a Balance Input Stage that is compatible with any analog source including Balanced and Unbalanced RCA, Common ground speaker level output or BTL (Bridges Tied Load) outputs common on many OEM headunuts”

This is a passive approach. The shop did say I could add the Zapco ASP-OE2 and ASP-OEB if I wanted active. I’m going to talk in person on price on Monday.

I’m putting a little more faith into this shop as one of the installers who works there is a part of the local Tacoma group I’m in.

    Priced at:1367 out the door.

Update: The other shop just called and the owner said there was poor communication on their end and information was incorrectly relayed to me (ie new salesman). He said that the Fix86 is a great option for DSP, but not required ... if I was an audiophile I would 100% want. He suggested doing the basic drop and listening to it and if I want later I can always have it installed. I also gave him prices from the other store and he matched + discount for miscommunication. So I’m going with them and saving another $250.

    Setup:
    Front: Focal 165AS - $275
    Rear: Focal Auditor - $85
    Amp: JL Audio RD400/4 - $275
    Sound deadening all doors
With labor & taxes: $1103 out the door
