Test drove 2018 Tacoma - LOVED everything...except the power

Being a TW member with 5 posts means he is aware of all 3rd gen aspects?

Maybe get your head out of your ass and read the thread a little bit more, why bother responding to ignorant posts like yours when he already addressed that?

It's almost like this section is inhabited by many immature teenagers who will get an attitude the moment anyone remotely has an opinion on something they like.

My truck drives fine without any TSB's

Should I get the latest transmission /shifting TSB done?

Cause I can't make decisions myself- maybe I should start a new thread about it. (sarcasm)

Acting like a 5.0 makes a lot of power is a joke. While more powerful than the tacoma engine.. it is weak.

Uhhh... constructive vs not helpful. Dude gave his impression of the vehicle and he’s looking for some advice from the forum. Smartass comments do what for the OP?

If it was a 2016 or newer, go back and ask to drive one after TSB 62-18 has been performed to the taco.

I drove the F150 and the Colorado before buying the Tacoma. The Ford had gobs of power it's true but it was also like driving a living room on wheels. Completely out of touch with the vehicle while driving and no sense at all of where the borders of the truck were. The Chevy, well, just felt cheap even though it drove pretty well. When I started researching more about both of those, seems like a LOT of folks were (are) having issues with crap building up on the back side of the valves due to direct injection only, and the Fords were only made worse from all the extra heat from the twin turbos. So everything is a compromise and since I come from 25 years of driving a really anemic 3.0L in a '93 pickup, the new Tacoma feels pretty damned great so far. Like any new car, you have to adjust your driving style to get the most out of it. I don't drive the Toyota the same way I drive the Porsche yet I'm happy with both.

I have a neighbor whose son bought a new Ford Explorer in 2016. I learned that his has a 2.3L Ecoboost turboed 4. This also fed into my post making me assume the 2.7 was a 4. His little 2.3 puts out 280hp and 320lb.ft. torque which is apparently enough to move around his 4500lb Explorer pretty well-he says he likes its power. My '16 RX350 is lighter at 4222lbs and I have the 3.5L v6 with 295hp and 265lb.ft. torque. I can imagine his Explorer is about the same with power as mine with 2 less cylinders because he's got a bit more torque than I do. I'm very satisfied with the power in that thing. After driving the RX a while when I get into my 01 Taco I feel like I'm pulling a trailer LOL

My 2010 Corolla came with a 2.4 liter engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. It's called the Corolla XRS. I am aware of the engine size of my own car. :)

The 2.7 ecoboost is a V6. A small V6. Extremely smooth, super powerful, and about the same efficiency as the Taco (marginally worse for the Ford).

I am no fanboy of Ford. My F150 is a work vehicle I am given to drive. However, I will say it is absolutely a ‘skookum choocher’, even fully laden. Makes driving my Taco seem like it’s on sleeping pills. Now, the Ford may grenade and be cubed in 6 years, but in the meantime the driving experience is excellent. I understand why it’s the most popular vehicle, of any type, in North America.

Because unanswerable questions. Quick... what's my favorite color and why should I like red? You nor anyone else except me can answer that right? Same as OP.

So I just bought a 18 myself at the end of July and it has the same described issue when did the tsb make it into production? Or did it not so my truck would need it still?

Dude was not happy with the power of the truck.

So constructive comments are along the lines of "buy it and you can do different things to make it more acceptable" and smart ass comments are along the lines of "if you don't like it now, keep looking at other options".

Well if you start a thread on TW, I guess you should expect to get both, but at the end of the day, which advice was more "constructive"?

Rhetorical question, not a smart ass question in case you are confused.

Considering my old 98 Taco (4 banger) could barely make 55 MPH up a gradual hill on a highway, my 2017 TRD OR feels like a rocket ship! I can do 90 (probably more), I can accelerate quickly from on ramps, I can pass people quickly. Is it as fast as my Acura TL SHAWD? Heck no, but it's not a dog either. Different tools for different jobs.

    Wrong.

This is coming from the previous owner of 3 ‘11-‘13 F150’s. 3.5 Eco, 5.0L, and 6.2L. The 5.0L engine served me well, towing 7000lbs on a regular basis. Traded the truck off for reasons other than the enjoyable powertrain.

These threads kill me. If it wasn't for this and "how big of tires can I get on this thing" threads the third gen forum would have nothing but the sound of crickets.

OP here. I am appreciative of the PMs I have received from members about potential fixes and others sharing their experiences.
I appreciate the wealth of knowledge. I am still definitely in the market still. Like I said, I really liked the truck. There are the reviews, then there is the driving feel. I was worried about a seat that doesn't adjust for height. I did not find that to be an issue. I loved the quality, the visibility. This thing FEELS like it's going to last a good, long while.

When people complain about an issue, often there is a solution in place. My current Corolla burned a TON of oil. Enough people complained about that 2.4 engine burning lots of oil, and Toyota rebuilt it for me way out of warranty for free.
My Toyota previous to that had a nasty squeal when it rained out that would drive me nuts. I took it in several times to the dealer without fix - then forum members suggested a Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt. Installed, problem solved.

    I love forums. :)
