    Good afternoon all!

I recently did a full OME suspension swap on my 2018 Toyota SR5 4x4 purchased from Toytec. The install went smoothly and since then I have had an alignment done and a rotate and balance for good measure.

My issue: I am trying to find the cause of is a wobble felt in the steering wheel and in the seat. This vibration is felt at low RPMs at the speeds of roughly 15-30 mph. It doesn’t feel really intense or like anything is ripping itself apart, but I want to make sure I’m not harming the truck driving it like this.

Has anyone else experienced this with this kit?

Could the carrier bearing drop be too much or too little and be causing this wobble at certain speeds?

Any input would be nice from the community! I’m trying to work this out myself before throwing my hands in the air and paying a tech to fix it.

    Thanks in advance!!

sounds like there is an issue with the install of the lift, How do your alignment numbers look?

Could be the carrier bearing drop kit, can try and remove it. Did you use shims on the rear leafs?

Does it go away in 4x4? If it goes away in 4x4 then it might be your needle bearing, ECGS sells a bushing to replace it.

Can you provide more specifics on the parts you used, OME could be a few different things.

Doing a bunch of research for my lift plans, and JoeCOVA is spot on. I am looking at having the ECGS bushing installed before I lift my truck, to avoid the issue all together.

Here are the parts I used:

    Front Shocks
1 x OME-90021-P Old Man Emu Nitrocharger Sport Front Shocks - Softer Valving

    Trim Packer
    1 x 95PF5 - OME Trim Packer

    Front Coils
    1 x OME-888 - Old Man Emu Front Coils

    Rear Lift
    1 x EL095R-P - OME Rear leaf springs 2005+ Tacoma (SET)

    Rear Shocks
1 x OME-60091-P - Rear Old Man Emu Nitrocharger Sport Shocks

Rear Carrier Bearing Drop Fit Kit
    1 x FK29 - Driveshaft Carrier Bearing Drop Kit (05 & UP Tacoma)

    U-Bolts
    1 x UB-75 - 7.5" U-Bolt Kit

I'll try it out in 4x4 this afternoon. I didn't shim the rear leafs, but did the DAKAR replacements back there. I'll toss my alignment numbers up tonight too.

OK, its a pretty typical setup so my only conclusion is you may not need the carrier bearing drop kit OR its your driver side needle bearing.

I really can't imagine you needing shims but these trucks seem to all react differently with the same parts.

The feel of the vibration changes a bit in 4WD, but definitely is still there. I suppose I’ll try varying the carrier bearing drop and report back. Not convinced that is the issue with so much of the feel in the steering wheel, but I’ll give it a shot.

Honestly, to me it sounds to be a front suspension issue or alignment. But if it is a vibration i would start at the tires and wheels and go from there. This is not rocket science. It is just suspension

I had a low speed vibration as well even with the CBD and ECGS bushing. 3 degree shim on the rear springs fixed it up. Read through Hodakaguy's thread to see some installed.

    hey buddy,

as most others said, it's likely the carrier bearing that you'll need to fix the vibes. I also have this kit with the 887s in the front and HD pack in the back. I have installed the ECGS bushing, CB drop and a 3 degree shim which has eliminated my vibes

What's the width of the OME leafs for the shims?

Don't play guess & check - you'll just waste your time.

Measure driveline angles, calculate the working angles of your U-joints, and it'll be obvious what needs to be corrected and exactly by how much. There are lots of guides on this forum and on youtube on how to do all this - it's very simple and takes 5-10 mins.

    I have same exact set-up
4* shims, and fixed it. I had same vibration, same place. Do that and it's gone

I have a similar set up on my 17 TRDOR and had a vibration from roughly 20 to 30 mph after I installed the lift. The carrier bearing drop kit made no difference in my case. My factory leaf springs had a ~2.5 degree shim installed, I transferred it to my new spring pack and it cleared up my vibrations.

There are multiple different factory spring packs out there, and I have no idea what the SR5 comes with, but it may be worth checking your factory spring pack out, could save you a few bucks.

Well I have had another alignment done, the first from Big O Tires was horrible, and the Toyota techs were astonished that I had already paid for it to be done. It is all back to spec now. Vibes are still there! I have tried about 20 different washer/spacer combos on the CB and never found the “sweet spot”. My next step is to install the zinc 3* shims sold on the Toytec website, remove all CB washers and start from scratch with the new rear angle. When they show up I’ll do an update on whether or not they helped! Thanks for all the posts fellas it’s greatly appreciated! I never realized how common this was with pretty much all lifted Tacos, except for a lucky few here and there haha. One thing that hasn’t been troublesome after the lift install is the TSS!

Any before and after pics of the lift. I have a dclb as well and i'm leaning towards the same kit. Crossing finger that the shims you ordered will fix the vibes. Keep us posted.

sortof stock. 6112/5160, pro wheels and a tune.
I ran into issues with mine when i had 2" springs out back, granted they were AAL, but 2" of lift still. I did all forms of carrier bearing shims and degree shims. Also put in the leg work measuring out my driveline angles. All my angles were within 1 degree of each other, so I had a driveline shop check my work- they said it was great. (yay for me, i did it right). Guess what- still had vibes. Turns out- I had bad tires. Got new tires- vibe gone.
I was chasing my tail until I measured my driveline and eliminated that from the equations- that left the tires.

Some of the others said to check your driveline angles- start with that, otherwise its just a guessing game. That way you know your numbers and can work from there and get a game plan.

Here’s the before and afters. Not the best angles but you can tell which is which. Clean is without, dirty is with.
