Once I read your filler wire I said Ok then.

Seems to me a climate controlled shop would cure the humidity ( We Can All have those fantasies)

I do have some customers that have a very cool shop

No. But stick around long enough and you'll know what we are talking about.

Yeah we use 1/16” filler wire on most of our repairs. Hyundai filler metals suck for the record. It sucks using MIG as much as we do but it is faster most of the time than stick. That said we do all of our vessel and tube repair with TIG and SMAW.

Rare breed now a days. Good hard working smart up starts are hard to find.

Don’t care for that kind of technology my self. Kind of like the iron roughneck it is just going to kill a bunch of jobs.

I worked with guys that had never done either process

We had a welder here that retired a year or so ago that could only stick weld. However he was an artist at it and there was no need to UT his work. If he said it was good you could lay your money on it, it was.

Someday there will be a welder saying

""I remember when we used to put diesel into our welders"

I had a kid come up and ask me how to use a pipe wrap once. He went from helper to fitter to welder real quick. I made sure if it.

But I agree. There's a dangerous curve coming up we're old dogs like you guys are checking out and more young guys need to talk less, kiss more ass, and realized you need to barter labor and good work in exchange for tips and tricks of the trade.

I seem t have good luck welding tube. For me, if the one metal is thicker than the other, it helps the most.K3dx9MJf74VYw3NRBz1MNNdhlGwqSxx7aNIjTXQp_e06c414473e4f73192359a496218790f08b06958.jpg

@koditten How do you decide your settings with multiple thicknesses?

    Trial and error mostly.

A test, surface weld on the thicker iron 1st. If I like what I see, then I'll "wash" the weld puddle over the thinner tubing. This tube was actually exhaust pipe. I had a the local muffler shop bend the hoops. I had no idea if I was going to be able to weld it at the time. It actually came out quite nice.

My first thought was adjust welding technique to how the machine is set.

Thinking of those days before remotes when it could have taken 20 minutes or longer to get to the truck

Kinda like dealing with arc blow I just adjust to what needs done comes from practice and lots of mistakes in your learning days
