Did you adjust your lights after HID/LED?

Did you guys adjust your low-beams after installing an HID/LED kit? I just installed a 35w 5000k HID kit and I find the light to be less adequate than stock. Am I crazy?? I bought an Amazon kit that I added to my mom's Camry a few years back and it worked flawlessly.

Not sure if it's the kit or I just need to adjust the beams a bit higher, my complaint is that I can't see as far.

That's strange. Most of what I have read it's either good to go or people actually have to point them down a bit. I'm actually right in the middle of installing my morimoto elite HID kit and halo switchbacks. Could be the kit if it's cheap.

low beams are not meant for you to see far. if you can see far with lows they are aimed too high and blinding other drivers. please dont be a jerk and aim them properly. Park in front of a wall on a level surface and measure. you can find guides online. also if you put in HID's without a projector again you are blinding other drivers. The light pattern is not the same as halogen bulbs.

I have 35w HIDs and the benefit to them is light saturation not range. If your stocks lights are truly better I would be surprised.

I felt as if the stock had a longer throw whereas the HIDs had a better flood. Both worked great compared to my Wrangler. With the HID upgrade, it was to the point where I could not see a street sign/name at all with only the low beams on.

It's no surprise that a cheap Chinese HID bulb not designed for a halogen reflector would not perform as well as a standard H11 Bulb. In order for an HID bulb to work properly, the reflector assembly HAS to be designed for THAT type of bulb. What you get now are illegal and ineffective and unsafe lighting, usually with overlit foreground areas that force your pupils to constrict and diminish the effective distance you can see. These Philips H11 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQWQN1Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 bulbs are probably the best halogen H11 bulbs on the market and are about thirty percent or so brighter than the stock long life (read low output) bulbs that Toyota puts in their lights from the factory. I put these in the day after I bought my truck and am more than happy. Very important to have proper aim.

We had a gig in Idyllwild last week and driving home on pitch dark mountain roads, these bulbs in Toyota projectors are more than adequate for the job. Way more than adequate. What you really want in a light is a smooth broad spread of light where the beam is brightest at the top of the beam cutoff and gradually drops off toward the bottom of the beam. THAT type of light distribution is the most effective (like my NOS Cibié 175 fog lights) and will not over light the foreground. Now there WAS some yahoo coming the other way in an F150 full of way too bright LED headlight bulbs and light bars and literally almost ran us off the road because we were literally blinded by that shit. There's a good reason we have lighting standards and regulations. It's for everyone's safety.

Sounds like he's using the stock housing and odds are he doesn't have the premium and tech package with the oem projectors.

All 3rd gen Tacoma’s have projector low beams. High beams are reflector.

Might be your kit. I didn’t need to readjust mine but I have the Morimoto kit.

I didn't need to make any adjustments to my lowbeams. I checked the calibration and cut off was exactly at the level it should have been.

ALWAYS adjust after changing bulbs. What I like to do is park at the end of a pitch black road at night and bring the beams really low to the ground. Then slowly raise them until you can see to a decent distance. From there, bring them back down just a tad to avoid blinding other (especially lower) vehicles facing you. Also remember that any weight in your bed will drop the back of the truck and make your lights shoot higher than with no weight, so keep that in mind.

The only difference are the higher trims have LED DRLs. The lower trims have halogen.
