Anyone know what the maximum allowable amps a very good set of aligator clamps will handle, or another temporary type of battery connector that can move easily between vehicles, be long enough to go from front to back, and be able to handle more than 465 amps (12v) for a removable winch? I have a receiver hitch mounted Warn VR8, and want to make it portable between front to rear, and even to other vehicles. I’d just use winch power plugs on mine, but chances are it wont always be just on the front of my truck, so I need some reach too. This 800amp jumper cable set might be a good choice, any suggestions?

I have the same question as you. Did you move forward on the jumper kit and if so how is it working out. I plan on winching from the front or back and don't want to have two sets of quick connect cables.

do you know how much your winch pulls at full load?
    Size accordingly.

It works well! I cut a 4’ end off that 800a Energizer cable and put battery lugs on it to run directly to the battery, but also put a BlueSeas high amp switch on the hot side so I have switched power between the front bumper to battery. Then I put another set of QC plugs on the remaining length of the cable so it can reach the back of the truck, put another set of QC plugs on the endnof that, and made a short cable piece out of the remaining end with QC plugs on one end and the battery clamps on the other. I was going to run the long piece along the frame to the back, but realized I could also use it as a long jumper cable if I plug it into the plug in the front of the truck, and ust my shorty adapter on the other. I put the same plugs on the winch cable so now I can plug the winch into the front of the truck or into the long cable running to the back, or plug the battery clamp adapter to either end for jumping other batteries.

Then, for fun, I also put a QC plug onto a cable that terminates as a cigarette lighter and USB power adapter so I can run the long cable into our tent from the truck as well.

I use Anderson connectors, I have the winch plus a jumper cable set and well make a cable for a refrigerator if I buy one.
