And the first person to drive the little monster truck, other than me was....

    My 10 year old daughter.

Started teaching the girl how to drive a manual. She did pretty good. She had it moving on her third try. Stalled out twice, got it the 3rd and we did circles in the (empty) parking lot. She stalled out again on the 4th try.

She was salty this morning. I have been on her to get off her butt, the couch and her phone lately. I put her to work this morning helping load and take recycling. We dropped off/emptied and I pulled into the community center parking lot and asked if she thought she could drive it. She didn't back down from the challenge, just nervous obviously.

We sat and I had her work the pedals individually first. Learned how to give it throttle and control it. Engine running I told her to push light on the gas until she got to 2000rpm. Once she got the hang of it i made her go from 1500 to 3000 back to 15, to 2500, then to 2000. She did really good with that. Then taught her how to use the clutch pedal. Told her the idea was to give it a little gas, while letting off the clutch slowly and get moving. Then once she had it moving, even a little to let off completely.

Surprised she got it by the 3rd try. Hopefully means i did a good job teaching. I'd like to take a video. She's cute as hell.

    Yes, 8" 30 spline.
Be careful though. When I ordered my first locker I order the Spartan T8 30 and it didnt fit. I believe it's for a mini truck rear end.
I ended up going with the Powertrax Lock Rite for the rear and Spartan front. But I think the correct Spartan would've been this one
    https://www.amazon.com/USA-Standard...315&sr=8-8&keywords=tacoma+spartan&th=1&psc=1

Could be wrong on that though, so double check elsewhere if you go with Spartan
(Amazon vehicle compatibility agrees with me)

When you say "didn't fit", how did it not fit? Was the spartan assembly to large for the carrier or did the side gears of the spartan not fit where the OE spiders went/go?

I have done a ton of looking around. A bit irritating really. With basically 20 years of Tacoma diffs, there is more option for front lockers than there is rear. Could find several different brands for a front LB locker, I dont like feeling like I HAVE to buy powertrax for a rear LB locker. I have looked at Auburn, Aussie, Spartan, Lokka, Nitro LB lockers and I cant seem to find a darn thing. I also like to be different. I want something not everyone has.

I can find the spartan kit you linked to but they are selling these kits that reuse the OE spiders. I have been so busy looking, that i have not looked into what the pro/con of that type of setup is. Seems funky to me to reuse the OE spiders but I could be wrong. They certainly make me more hesitant to buy.

If it's that frustrating trying to figure it out, why not just go with what you know will work? After all, the end result is going to be the same either way. Your diff is going to be locked. There are multiple people you know running the no-slip with good results (me, Gid, Everett, Zach's old truck) and only one report of failure (connor). There are also several running the lock-rite without issue. You're over thinking this, Chris.

Oh, I know. And I probably will. But I want to say I tried anyway. And if i can save a few $. I have found some conflicting info out there.

If you look up a powertrax for an 07 FJ. You get this 1620. It lists the 01-07 Sequioa under fitment. 01-07 Sequoia is the same diff as us.

So i can find a Aussie locker. That lists fitting in a 07 FJ. Says nothing about a Tacoma, but by what i read, it should fit.

I know i could just off the powertrax bridge. I just wanna exhaust finding my own bridge first.

Did not fit inside the carrier. Instructions showed an image that looked more like the older 8" carrier. Called and confirmed it does not fit in my 8.4" diff and was told I needed the "v6" 8 inch locker.

I don't regret getting the Lock-Rite instead of the Spartan. I have loved every Spartan I've driven and I like my front Spartan, but my Lock-Rite has been just as great, and completely reliable.
Lots of guys here also run the no-slip without problem, but I have heard of a lot of issues people have had with them and they tend to be less aggressive off-road. I believe @Snowy had a no-slip explode on him on the highway, and Gideon's no-slip doesn't work in reverse. Levi's seems to do well though, so who knows. Sounds like a gamble either way

You need to be looking for what is called the "8.4" rear diff, that's something our trucks have in common. Along with any other 2nd gen (far as my research led me to think) that didn't come with a factory locker. Unsure about spline count.

I'm getting a Lock Right. Because, a lot of people use them we wheel with and they're proven.

I was reading another build thread. Someone who i think now owns werldertacos, iirc, old single cab said something about one blowing up a 10k. I will look for it when I get off work.

Driveline isn't something I'm willing to fuck around with and won't be sticking to my dirt cheap ways. Not on my daily, at least. ~$400 for the Powertrax, from the Zon or ECGS, and donezo! You'd have it in your hands by Saturday I'd guess.

Yea that was me. The locker bolts backed off within itself due to Detroit not using lock tite or something off the production line. Whole thing just fell apart basically after 10k miles. I hit a bump while daily driving and bam. Rear end started making a not so good sound. Took it all apart and it wasn’t how it was when it was installed professionally lol
