So this is the front rail? And it fits fine with 3rd gen Tacoma with Tonneau cover? Mine is Extang Solid fold 2.0 on DCLBOR

No drilling required. Just unscrew and replace new bedrail

Mine went from an 09 to the 17, no issues at all. Would never have known it was not there until I went to use it, thanks TW for informing me.

Glad I stumbled across this. My 2008 Tacoma had the front rail, and the 2017 doesn't. Ordered!

Anybody know if this works from all gen 2s? I'll swap out from my 2005 Prerunner to the 2017 if it does...

Check pricing with your local dealer. Mine was several dollars cheaper than that Amazon product listing.

It fits with with the OEM tonneau cover. I don't know how the Extang is mounted so I can't say anything regarding that particular cover.

Yes, the front rail for the 3rd gen is the exact same part used for the 2nd gen. There should be no drilling involved, just unscrew the existing bolts that are already there. They use a torx 30 head. Be careful not to strip the bolts. They are on there pretty tight, and I almost stripped one.

I managed to strip one of the bolts when I put the weatherstripping on for my tonneau. Anybody got a link or a part number where I could buy them?

I pulled the rail from my 2007 Taco and stuck it on my '16. It's the same part.

I stripped the head–not the threads–in one of mine. I ran down to the hardware store and bought a stainless metric bolt. I don't recall the size.

Sorry to bump an old thread but...for those of you that installed the header rail, do the nuts on the bed stay in place when you back out the bolts. I shined flashlight back there, it doesn't look like the nuts are being held in place by anything and i'm concerned that I wont be able to hold them in place when threading the bolts back in. Thanks in advance!

Nuts won’t go anyway where. I installed and removed the front rail multiple times, never had an issue.

Fr pass door handle replace, Tyger step rails and soft bed cover, DDSS3 fogs, TRD skid, OR front tow hook, SokieTech hood struts, fr seat covers (neoprene), metal oil filter housing, magnetic oil plug, Cyclone under hood lights, Blue Sea Systems 5025 Fuse Block ST Blade 6 Circuit with Ground and Cover, Blue Sea Systems 60A DC Panel Mount circuit breaker.
Installed the rail (PT278-35100-BH) and found the RockyMounts DriveShaft Track Locking Thru-Axle Mount wouldn't mount flush. Noticed the upper bed rail (square cross section; 65409-04010) mount isn't symmetrical so I took the rails off, flipped the upper bed rail around, and installed the rails again. The rail (PT278-35100-BH) now sits "proud" of the top rail and the RockyMount installs / functions as expected.

    So. Many. Stickers.
Old thread, but useful. Have a replacement oem bedhead rail coming, mounting it on an 18 Sport, mounting maxtrax carrier mount as well this weekend (assuming everything g arrives on time).

Every website that sells the bed Head rails claims they won't fit 3rd gen tacos, every thread on every forum says they will. TW ftw.

Edit: it fits like a glove

The dealership was $10 cheaper than Amazon ($45).

Thank you for the part number, the dealership needed that since 2019 doesn't recognize that bar.

The torx 30's are tough to get off but they come, and the stock bolts are plenty long enough to put the front rail on.

Factory tri fold tonneau fits finefand the little support piece on the front of the bed doesn't interfere with the rail.
